Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

I accidentally put this in the other thread at first -

At the Kohl Center for the bouncyball matchup between the Badgers and Florida Swamp chompers. The upper facade is full of the men's and women's basketball accomplishments. There are no banners other than a small "Wisconsin" and "Florida" banner, one for each, on the south end right under the hockey safety netting. So bizzare.

Edit: also, "#Badgers" is projected on the walls over the 300s in 4 places. Why it isn't #PaintLaBahn, I have no clue.

Edit 2: In an effort to not do the Gator chomp, the band did the sieve chant during the Gators intro.

Upper facade as in the third level ring? And the #badgers was projected above the third floor seats?

So they took down all the accomplishment banners and put up a Florida banner. What a joke.

Our complaints got the NC banners back up, but where are all the other WCHA, NCAA, and Frozen four ones?

Yes. It was totally full, and had what both basketball teams had had on their banners; everything from the national championship to postseason tournament appearances.

So they took down all the accomplishment banners and put up a Florida banner. What a joke.

At least, I'm pretty sure it was a Florida banner. IIRC, they've always had a Wisconsin and Opponent banner at one end. If it wasn't that, then it was a Big Ten banner. (I was in row NN, which is directly in front of the end boards, so I just saw a white banner with blue letters on it.) That said, I like that sentence, and I want the athletic department to read it.

Our complaints got the NC banners back up, but where are all the other WCHA, NCAA, and Frozen four ones?

I completely agree. No, the rafters weren't cluttered. In fact, they got less cluttered with the women's team moving to LaBahn Arena. We had plenty of banners, and it looked impressive. As I said when this first came up, I want all the Kohl Center's tenants' banners to be up at all times. Yes, that includes hockey banners at basketball games and vice versa. Wouldn't it be great for those 6 national championship banners to stay up, right in front of all those student basketball fans (many of whom we won't see until the Marquette game, then some Big Ten opponents)?

On a similar note, I wonder if the Wisconsin Badgers facebook page will recognize that hockey exists this weekend, because there wasn't one mention of the LSSU series. That's thousands of students who could have seen it on their news feed.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

Is the gator chomp a bad thing? It sounds kinda cool.

It pretty much never happens at hockey games, except when the refs come on the ice (I prefer to wave and cheer for them). You see it more at football and basketball. Basically, when fans don't like things, they'll clap in a manner similar to Florida's famous chomp. During basketball introductions for the opposing team, the drummer does the slower "eat a rock" rhythm (the same as "power...plaaaayyyyy" and "sieve" for opposing introductions at hockey games) and fans will do that clap in time with the drums. At volleyball games, it's the same thing, except it switches to a sieve chant for the libero.

When the gators took the floor for warmups, they were greeted with almost every single student doing that clap. They must have thought it was funny to see their thing among the UW fans. I knew it was going to happen, but it still made me mad. (In the last couple of years, I usually say something to the effect of, "we aren't the Gators, and it's pronounced 'BOOOOOOOOO!'" Normally, it's pretty quiet.) During the Gators' introductions, I did the same arm motion as the slow/steady sieve chant because I wasn't going to do the other thing. I saw other people doing it. Bonus: that tomahawk chop (even though I despise the Atlanta Braves) is like cheering for FSU...Florida's rival! I definitely heard some "sieve" chanting from the band, so I just went with that.

So your saying that while they 'friend-ed' the Hockey page they don't Like it.

On another note, I'm taking odds on Rumps: 'Friday', 'Saturday', or the dreaded 'Not at all'?

I saw the ring last night too. I'm guessing that the years/words somehow are able to rotate, a la the advertising behind home plate at baseball games, for when hockey is being played. Just my guess.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

Anyone have a picture of the ring? I want to send to Ben Fraser who sent me a picture back in October of the Kohl Center showing no ring and saying Andy Baggot's article was not true.

I will get one at the next home hockey game, but that is not for another 3 weeks.

Thanks.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

Was also at the basketball game last night. Basically, the only banners hanging from the rafters was one basic Wisconsin and a Big Ten banner. That's it. All basketball accomplishments were noted all the way around the top ring facade right below the third deck. Zero acknowledgement that hockey programs even exist. I assume that the UW will swap out everything and put all hockey titles up on hockey game nights. The athletic department has gone to great pains to say there aren't "virtual" banners, but not sure how this is better. Seriously, they are touting this as a really great upgrade, but I'm not seeing it at all.

As someone else here said, they had already cleared space by moving the women's hockey banners over to LaBahn. I don't buy it at all that it looked cluttered and were running out of space.

The CreaseCreatures twitter account said the ring thing is reversible for basketball/hockey. Honestly, it doesn't specifically look bad, but it's not as good as banners.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

I envision a day (coming soon) when they will have to hand out pamphlets so all these Bball and Fball fans coming to the Kohl Center to watch hockey can understand foreign concepts like off-sides, icing, and what the little bench is for. The old WCHA and NCAA banners will be in a museum somewhere on the square where you guys can go sit on benches with your Starbucks and Flomax, watching the office girls walk by and shouting at each other about the good ol' BB (before Barry) years.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

I went on twitter Crease Creatures and it looks like a ring beam to me. It's like advertising. Very lame. It is uncluttered so the fan experience is much better!!!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

With all this talk of bouncy ball and interior decorating I spent the last couple hours going through my files looking for recipes to exchange... but now that I see it, I'm wondering what do you guys suppose an outfit like that set us back?
I mean maybe it's a good deal when compared to the high cost of baling wire to hold up banners.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

man showing digital projections like that of the great accomplishments are ****ing lame. it looks terrible and it really speaks of a lack of respect to the hockey and basketball teams.

Look: Barry, Cerniglia and every other thoughtless ...person...in the athletic department at Wisconsin. We get it. You don't give a **** about what the teams have done nor about loyal fans. I blame all of you dunces for this.

But let me tell you what professional Basketball and Hockey teams do when they achieve playoff appearances and championships....THEY ****ING CELEBRATE THEM!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

One would think Rumpel would be in net Friday with Saturday a wait and see as usual. Just give us 6 solid periods overall for once.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

That's what I'm hoping for. Tonight is my school's playoff football game and of course tonight there is TV but not tomorrow..... #theIndianalife

Anyone else having issues with not getting emails when subscribe to "instant notification", or is it just me?

Not me, but then I don't use that feature as I'm not interested in what anyone else has to say...

Hey, I wonder if there's a setting that would notify me of my own posts? That would be great!
