wow, UW down 5-2 in the 3rd now to BU.

this team is a looooooooooooooooooooooong long way from being competitive against the best in the country let alone beating them.

It's a tough weekend to digest considering this is a Frozen Four or bust season for Eaves (considering next year they'll have 2,000 freshman and that will once again become the excuse for sub-par seasons the following 2 years unless they bring in a group that hits the ground running).

This has not been a great trip to Boston, that's for sure. Now's the time to put that magic potion in the Dane County water systems to get people to buy their LSSU-UW tickets!

They stayed within one early on, but now it doesn't feel much different than last night.

I'd rather see them finish the game by playing hard and cleanly, not by starting crap when they're down and out.

I wanted to say the same thing. I am not going to make excuses for the poor weekend (even though I mentioned the Jerry York thing last night), it was very disappointing. But the season is still young, a lot of hockey yet to be played.

No! I'm too young (as is my Badger fandom) to have that kind of perspective! One week off is one more week to think about the demise of the Wisconsin Badgers men's hockey program!

But really, that's absolutely true. It just really, really stinks that this is happening right now, as people won't be buzzing about the #3 or #2 Badgers anymore. From a purely on-ice perspective, there are obviously problems that need to be fixed, but they won't magically become terrible forever. I liked listening to Shuchuk's interview on the radio postgame show. He brought up how much better they played tonight (despite the score) than the previous night, and had kind of a "no excuses for this nonsense, but let's not freak out" attitude.

Hey guys! You know, I really thought last year was a fluke-- but I leave you all to yourselves again in October and look what happens???

It's ok, I'm here now. All is well.

Btw- my calculations indicate we now need a sweep and then at least a split with Miami to get in. I'm sure that's right.

it's true it's October and there are what 30 games left? something like that.

but...the bottom line is UW just got their asses absolutely handed to them by 2 different teams who I don't *think* were established as FF contenders at the outset of this season (and considering last year's performance vs. Lowell and this weekend we have no glimpse to go by that they can rectify their situation in the near-term).

bottom line, last years run to the playoff (wcha) crown was great (albeit absolutely necessary to make the field in the NCAA'S and overcome the horrific start), BUT they NEED to get to the FF this season (just for this season to be considered successful based on their history) or us fans are going to suffer insufferable excuses as to why they missed it...again.

and if that's the case? if they don't make the FF? what will UW fans think about that very plausible scenario given the last 5-6 years?

We haven't not made the FF yet and being October, it's way too early to grip about it.

Let's just try to have a better series against Lake St and go from there.


Sometimes teams take a little while to come together and figure it out. Winning championships takes a whole lot more than a stacked roster and upper classmen. The parts have to come together for a common purpose, define and understand roles, etc, etc, etc.

The process and timeline is different with each team and while there's no guarantee that any of this will happen, I'm willing to wait till 10 games in to bump the "Fire Eaves" thread.


Now where's that mountain? :confused:

I didn't see the game as I went to see Team Wisconsin vs. Team Northeast instead but had Posick's radio call on headphones the entire time. I know this sounds excuse-ish...but it didn't seem like Wisconsin should have lost last night -- and certainly not 7-3 -- based on the game I heard called.

Granted, it had a serious cardinal tint to the broadcast, but it seemed as if the score was quite different than actual game play. Wisconsin dominated large stretches of offensive zone time and accumulated 43 shots to BU's 26. You shouldn't lose when that happens, let alone 7-3. Peterson stopped just 19 of 26, and they scored on (I believe) four shots from the point and one bank shot from behind the net. Peterson has to be better than that. Not blaming it on him, but it seemed like an odd game.

Friday was just a throttling by a team who completely outplayed UW, but from the information provided to me, Saturday's score is far from the game UW actually played on the ice. Doesn't mean a lot, because the game is about wins and losses...but I'm not sure it's as bad in reality as it seems on paper.

There is a long way to go and than there is that... goalie?? Brodeur couldn't stop back door tap in goals

Lose one big, come back with pride.

That didn't happen. This is not a top 25 team. One of the softer teams I have seen. To me it looks like a coaching change is needed. I don't belie e any of the other top coaches out there would gave the last 5-7 year results with that program.

To many act like they have arrived just because they wear the jersey.

Fans did not show up off that great finish last season. What now? Rumpel is needed and the Badgers need to play better in their own end. What team was that posing as the Badgers in Boston? Get on the national stage and lay an egg. Not good.

Fresh meat for every Badger hater out there. Hope we get 6k in the seats for Lake State Friday after next. How about a month of byes.

Agree. This is a huge wake up call. Time for the team to put in the extra effort and come back down to earth. I wish I could see the 7 goals from Saturday to see the quality of them. Petersen is a much better goalie than these numbers this weekend.

Don't forget that the 2005-06 team was swept, in February, on the road, by an UNRANKED Mankato team.

Teams lose games, it happens. Now it's time to see how the team responds.

The worst two-loss skid by a championship team I could find in the last ~15 years was 03-04 DU against UND (8-2 + 6-2 = 14-4), so you could beat that goal differential by one!
