:O "Bring back sandman" clap clap clapclapclap

I loved the Sandman intro, especially when the base made your whole body vibrate.

I think HS FB affects attendance a bit.

It really sucked to have to actually watch the local sports during the 10:00 pm news so see the goals.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

Overall, I've heard good stories about "fan experience" stuff from people who went to a game this weekend. Most notably, that the AV team in charge of the replay screens was doing a better job at showing replays during breaks in the action.

Aside from the concession issue (maybe a carryover from the same problems that plagued the first game at Camp Randall this year), any other comments on the environment in the Kohl Center this weekend? Did you leave the arena feeling like the AD has been listening to the feedback they've been getting the last few years? Or, to pick at one of my annoying broken-record topics: Was the pep band allowed to play, or did they just play canned music and commercials over them?

My random thoughts...

Well my fan experience was not as good due to the concessions being atrocious (which I sent a detailed email to the athletic department yesterday). Also miss Sandman in the opening sequence, but liked "kick start my heart" before the faceoff. I liked the Brian Posick radio calls the had in the opening sequence especially the Double OT game at the regional in GB in 2006. That is a terrific call if you haven't heard it.

I like that they have the radio call broadcast on 88.1 in the Kohl Center permanently (used to be only on after football season was finished) which is great for nuts like me. Not sure I cared for new color guy Ian Perrin, but I can get used to him. I always liked Rob Andringa and Mike Cernigla sp? Sounds like it will be a bunch of different color guys this year.

Friday night was the smallest crowd I have ever seen at the Kohl Center for hockey (Brian Posick actually admitted it in the radio broadcast). Announced attendance was 8,000, but I would guess actual crowd was closer to 5-6,000.

Band playing versus canned music/advertising was same as last year as far as I could tell. They had mighty mites both nights and Saturday's kids were younger than the typical mites and I really enjoy that.

They better come up with some ways to get more butts in the seats which is a big downer for me. I would close off the third level and fill the first and second tiers, but it would still not be even close to being filled.

I hope the students that are on this board are listening - get more cheers started. The crowd feeds off you guys. I don't care if it is "lets go red" every time, just need to keep the crowd energized. Crazy sign guy was unusually quiet on Friday and had more cheers on Saturday, but had trouble doing his cheers over the band.

The on ice product looks improved with four solid lines. Problem is it is a one year deal then we cycle to super young team next year with players that are yet to be named.... Grant Besse has a quick shot and sweet hands. I think Jedd Soleway will be a good one in front. PP looked improved. Fourth line was hitting all over the ice as expected and fun to watch. Kerdiles was all over the ice and I like he isn't afraid to hit.

We are. I started a couple "let's go red"s and "boring helmet" and led a few other familiar staples. Someone started a Crease Creatures facebook group, where those of us who have met each other at the games (not limited to particular people) can get a little more organized, kind of like what I've heard about the "hockey line." There are a lot of people I've become familiar with simply by going to about the same spot of the student section each game. I know it didn't come out this weekend, but expect to hear more "Total Eclipse of the Heart" than in the last couple of years, as well as these songs. Since I got acclimated as a freshman, I've been pretty involved, but this year, I'm going to try to have more of an onslaught of chants. When there's general applause going on, I kick my seat. Wait a minute! There's a bonus of having empty seats around you! Even if you're sitting, you can make noise with those seats. When you stand up, just kick the seat of the chair into the back. It's loud and compliments cheering well. If the entire arena, even if it's just 8000, makes noise and kicks their seats at the same time, it gives the moment in the game a new kind of energy.

My best advice: find something amusing about the opposing team and have an idea or two in your head when you get there. The best cheers are the spontaneous ones that people catch on to, but it's best to have something in mind ahead of time.

Back in '05-'06, we had a great time taunting St. Cloud State, but it helped that a lot of people in the student section knew that their goalie (Bobby Goepfert) had been kicked out of Providence for plagiarism. The "Cite your sources" chants and the extra verse to "[Goalie] Is A Great Big Sieve" song still echo in my brain every now and then.

I've heard about the Goepfert game. If only more hockey players would transfer to an opponent after plagiarising something...I guess we'll have to do some more background checks or something.

Funny stuff. Reminds me of a story of my own from college. Had a roommate who was a friend of a friend my senior year who was kicked out of school for plagiarizing on a report. Funniest part was that as part of the assignment you had to print and staple your sources to your paper. The guy actually plagiarized (word for word) from several of the sources he handed in with his paper. True story.

The chants/songs are my first fond memory of Bobby Goepfert.

The other one is Tom Gilbert scoring on him from the opposite blue line.

Couldn't agree more. I suppose I should complain too, although I doubt it's going to change much. I had one nice experience, though. I dropped my Friday tickets last year, and Saturday night when I went to my seats there were cushions on them. Kinda funny since a quick review of the third level didn't reveal a single other cushion. Hardly necessary, but quite comfortable, thank you. Now if we could just get this effed up food straightened out. For my whole life I've believed that there was Coke, and then there were all the other cat pee colas, but I've changed my mind. That RC crap makes even Pepsi shine like the second coming.

Its actually kind of sad how happy it makes me to read that.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

So, about those championship banners.... LINK

And the disconnect continues. As a Blackhawks Fan, the cerimony raising the last Stanley Cup championship banner was pretty cool as is seeing those banners when you attend a game. Somehow in the United Center, they can figure out how to have all those championship banners for the Bulls and Blackhawks along with banners for retired numbers. Maybe the athletic department thinks they are going to win 10 more championships in the next decade and run out of room?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

Can't you just picture the next "banner raising" ceremony?

"Okay ladies and gentlemen, direct your attention to the ring and just as soon as the Culver's ad stops... okay... there's your championship message!"

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

How can they consistently make the wrong ****ing decision(s)?

****ing clown show.

I couldn't agree with you more. It's almost like someone is trying to crush the hockey program and all of it's traditions. Why on earth would they make all these negative changes if they weren't trying to harm the program?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

I don't usually get my undies in such a bunch, but they're ****ing riding high on this one.

My kid has won two (youth) state championships and his club maybe 7 or 8 over the years. When we go into his old rink, those banners are hanging there as a reminder and tribute to the accomplishments of those teams. The trophies are in the case out front.

There are some traditions that you simply don't **** with, that don't need to be made better, that don't need to be modernized.

A cluttered situation in the rafters is a testament to success, NOT AN EYESORE.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

Let's see if the athletic department cares what the fans think, or are prepared to give them the middle finger once again. Can't imagine anyone being for this change. How stupid can you be?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

Probably gonna replace them with Alliant Energy & BMO Harris banners.

My wife used the restroom while we were in the BMO Harris Varsity Club at Camp Randall on Saturday and laughingly reported back that there was a bowl of tampons on the counter. I half jokingly asked if they had "BMO Harris Varsity Club" printed on them - everything else in there did.

Unfortunately they didn't or we'd have taken one for a souvenir. :)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey Vol. XXVI: How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Tolerate The BTHC

This is absolutely nuts. This has to be the most completley stupid decision by the athletic dept, ever!

Add this to the concessions debacle and you have to wonder What the **** is going on up there! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbNidYYGjic

Are they trying to destroy the program? Are they trying to continue to lose season ticket holders? It sure feels that way to me.

One more stick in the eye and I am done with them, good on ice performance or not.
