Note: if you order online, the ticketstaronline system thinks the best seats for hockey are the lowest seats possible. there really is no good way to request better seats online. so, if you want to be at the redline, or up higher, or behind a specific goal you are better off calling and incurring those fees...

The full 2012-13 schedule has been released:

http://www.uwbadgers.com/sports/m-hockey/spec-rel/052312aad.html

In addition to the odd Sunday-Monday Penn State series, UW finals supposedly has created a Thursday-Friday series in December against Alabama Huntsville and an undescribed issue has led to a Friday-Sunday pairing for the home Minnesota series with a venue for the Sunday game to be announced later. (Maybe Barry is sending the men's team out to the Eagles Nest... :) )

The Sunday game against the Gophers is probably going to be an outdoor game at Soldier Field.

That's what I get for tuning out for the offseason!

I currently have the "Slap Shot" (Saturday) season ticket package. Does anyone know if the Soldier Field game would be included? I want no part of driving four hours to Chicago to watch a ridiculous gimmick.

No, the game is not included on the season ticket package.

Neither is the St. Cloud series March 8/9 that will take place at the Coliseum.

What's going on March 8 & 9?

Schedule thoughts...Don't like getting bumped to the Colliseum, what is the reason? A Sunday/Monday night series? Come on. What a joke. Even with Sunday, I wouldn't get home until 11ish already and have to work Monday AM. Monday is out of the qiestion. What the over/under for Monday attendance, 7000? Very tough start to the WCHA season, the dawgs, tiggers and rodents. After that, from 11/23 - 1/26, it's a easier schedule with only DU as a tough league matchup. Playing the whioux, cc, uno and st. clown only twice is a plus as far as dodging tough match-ups go, though I really don't know how good the clowns will be this year. UW has to at least 6-2 in n/c. Overall the schedule is very favorable this year.

Wisconsin Hockey 2012-2013 - NCAA's or bust.

These are the concessions that the University had to make to keep the WIAA state tournaments in Madison. The series that will be played at the Coliseum is during the WIAA Boys Bball tournament. The Sunday/Monday series is during the Wrestling tournament.

IMO, Duluth and CC will struggle, especially early on. That is probably the best time to play either team. Minnesota will be a very difficult series. You do have a favorable pod though w/UAA, Mankato, and Minnesota. Ultimately, I see this Wisconsin team being somewhere around 22-24 wins (regular season). That should put them in great position to make the NCAA Tournament, and I wouldn't be surprised if the Badgers did some damage once there.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XXI - For every dark night, there's a brighter day

I've got $20 on our attendance woes continuing this year and maybe getting worse.

The once proud UW Hockey program will be bumped for circuses and College Jeopardy before you know it.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XXI - For every dark night, there's a brighter day

If the St Cloud series and 2nd Minnesota game were to be played at the Kohl Center it would be a nicely backloaded home schedule for the first time in quite some time which generally means much better attendance no matter who we play. Unfortunately they will not be at the Kohl Center adding to the Saturday-Monday Series. It's a really weak sell to the Saturday night ticket holders as I'm assuming they're will be no Minnesota game included in that package, on top of no North Dakota or Denver game.

I do like the teams mentioned for future schedules as adding a couple of the big names each year on the home schedule along with Minnesota, Michigan and Michigan St each year should make for a much stronger home schedule for name draw at least. I would like to see Michigan Tech instead of Northern Michigan on the list as I assume the "road" games either way would be in Green Bay.

I speak for St. Cloud nation when I ask WHAT and WHERE the **** is the Colliseum?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XXI - For every dark night, there's a brighter day

Part of the Alliant Energy Center in Madison and not far from the Kohl actually. It used to be known as the Dane County Coliseum and was the Badgers full time home ice before the Kohl was built. Full capacity about 8600 I think.
Veterans Memorial Coliseum - 1919 Alliant Energy Center Way, Madison, WI

Silly, it's that arena we drove by when we went to Madison. Remember the strange route my gps took through the south part of town? My cousin explained what that building was.

Might be the year I can upgrade my seats more toward center ice and back up a little further.

You're lucky to get that venue. It would be like going to a UND game at the old Ralph only with a longer history.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey: Vol. XXI - For every dark night, there's a brighter day

Do any of you guys know what the name of the arena wisconsin played at in the 20s and 30s? Right before they ended the program and then restarted it in the 60s?

I've been looking all over and all I can find is stuff on the "modern era". I'm working on a Michigan Hockey record book of series against B1G schools and I need the name of it.

Really would appreciate it.

It sure seems that way, doesn't it. I can understand Boys basketball, barely, but wrestling? UW sold out to the WIAA so that wrestling could bump UW Men's Hockey? All to save the precious state basketball tournaments staying in Madison? Is the LaBahn open, because I'm guessing it could fit the wrestling "crowd." I don't know a single person who goes to that who isn't a) a coach or b) family member of a kid who wrestles.

I could care less about the Penn State series, but having to play the final WCHA series of the year at that dump they call the Colessium is very disappointing. UW rarely seems to get a home series to end the regular season, then gets shelved to a worn out venue, when placement for the playoffs will surely be on the line. So if they get home ice, where will they play then, Hartmeyer? Get bumped due to a flea market to benefit blind penquins in Antartica?
