Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

Really thought UW controlled play when it was 5v5 tonight. There is no way this team gets this result last year. Really showed some grit tonight despite the number of penalties we took. Don't know if that is somewhat a product of the revised rules or upped enforcement of the rules - which obviously has been discussed here in the early season.
Both games this weekend, especially tonight, were more chippy than I thought they would be.

Great weekend sweep, especially when the USCHO Big Ten columnists picked us to lose both.

Amazing to see the fire this team plays with after only 6 games of the G2O era. Can't imagine how good things can be in 2 or 3 years with them.

Solid night for Badger sports.

Probably go to one of the NMU games next weekend.

So......

Just started watching the video feed.....they played the Canadian National Anthem, then the US Anthem. Thought that was interesting.

SLU and Clarkson both do this. I'd guess proximity to Canada, historically a good number of Canadian players.

Cheel Arena is quirky in ways. The visitor "tunnel" doubles as the visitor penalty "box" during periods, so it isn't uncommon to have some game officials/staff watching from that area, probably the reasoning for the amount of people commented on above (or below).

Congrats on the North Country sweep, not a lot of teams get to say that in a season. I was left pretty impressed by the Badgers against SLU, I knew a turnaround wouldn't take long with the new coaching staff, but not sure I expected to see progress this soon (as an admittedly distant scoreboard watcher concerning UW).

Sounds like SLU will visit for 2 games next season.

What a great weekend for Wisconsin hockey.

This is their first winning record through October since 2010, pretty astounding.

If the defense and goal can improve as the season progresses they may have a shot of being an NCAA qualifier. That's far above my expectations of a .500 season.

Lots of hockey left but through 6 games the offense looks quite potent and that's something we haven't seen in years.

Totally agree. "We" are scoring enough, just have to limit what's going in against us. I didn't see any video this weekend, but it sounds like "we" were excellent!

4 year plan. Wisconsin plays 1 and 1 this year, SLU plays 2 at UW next year, Wisconsin makes a return trip to the North Country in year three for another 1 and 1 (presumably on the alternate nights) and then Clarkson to UW in year 4.
I believe that Minnesota has the other half of this agreement.
We've scheduled a few of these 4 year rotations in the past few years, BU and BC, Denver and CC. I kind of like it, give things a few years to develop some familiarity/hated with each other.

Yep, that's what I've read as well. I also like this kind of arrangement, particularly getting two big names to make trips to the North Country.

Good luck the rest of the season.

3-1 in the next 4 is totally doable. :) It will be neat to play NM again and see how UW has progressed since the first weekend.

It looks like NMU is struggling scoring goals since playing Wisco in GB...lets hope that trend continues. Jurusik/defense needed to take that step forward and stop giving up cheap goals...this is the week to gain some confidence!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

Well would you look at that...

UW getting 42 points in the latest USCHO poll putting us in the "receiving votes" section, this would be 23rd place if they went beyond the top 20

UW getting 7 points in the latest USA Today poll putting us in the "receiving votes" section, this would be 21st place if they went beyond the top 15

UW sitting in 10th place in the latest RPI

UW sitting at 10th place in the latest PWR

UW sitting at 4th place in team offense with 4.33 goals scored per game

UW sitting at 48th place in team defense with 3.83 goals allowed per game

UW sitting at 9th place in PP with 9/40 - 22.58%

UW sitting at 16th place in PK with 34/39 - 87.2%

I know that it is entirely too early to take some of these things seriously, but this is surely a place that the team has not been in for a few years.

It's just good to see UW isn't a laughing stock anymore. The lads need to put some corn in the silos the next 2 weeks and they'll be a top 15 team. Actually, in the next 8 games, only DU is a top 10 team, the rest are not. They could pull 6-2 on the next 8. Even 5-3 would put them @ 9-5 heading into the b6. Going further, their first 4 b6 games are UM and M St. Go 3-1 there and then they are at 12-6. b6 title all the way! It feels really good not to suck.

Ease up on the metaphors there, coach Eaves.

I just had to toss that one out there, out here in dairy country there is combining going on everywhere right now. Seemed appropriate.

keep tossing them out - I thought it was funny.

At least we aren't crapping on the carpet!

Well we did steal some ponies this past weekend. That is certainly a sign that the ship is pointed in the right direction and that the puppies aren't crapping on the carpet.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

As long as the cat doesn't pee on the carpeting again it's all good.
