Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

When we were talking, Mrs. MCR was staring at him like I stare at Sofia Vergara. I had to remind her Burish is only a handful of years older than MCRJr....like that mattered.

My grandma (a hawks fan) has a grandma crush on Burish and it's hilarious and adorable.

Re: last night, I understand multiple scheduling conflicts, but the lack of even a tiny alumni band caught me by surprise and there were rage issues. I excused myself to the Kellner club for a good chunk of the game lest I jeopardize season tickets with poor behavior near the ASN cameras.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

I probably have the least firsthand experience living in WI outside of the Madison area, but even I've gotten the sense that anyone who follows UW hockey outside of this market is someone who would be going out of their way to follow it anywhere, like gwhinwi!

Also, good game last night, eh?

Mrs. gwhinwi and I will follow this team until we shuffle off this mortal coil. I became a fan at age 7 and can't imagine a time when I wouldn't be supporting the team (no matter where we are.) Really bummed that I won't be able to see a game in person this season, but next year I'll try to get up there for at least one men's and women's game.

The 2nd and 3rd periods last night were outstanding. Incredibly exciting play throughout. In the 3rd there were a few times where I had to remind myself that most of these kids were on the team last year and weren't given the opportunity to show any of the creativity that they offered last night.

I resemble the first part of your remarks. Last year is the first time in many, many years I wasn't in Madison for games, but not because they were bad, daughter just had some medical issues that precluded us from traveling when we planned.

Also I'd somehow feel better if you made another post before tonight's game is over. Your sitting on 666!

Big Matt for Jed and Cullen for Paddy tonight, otherwise all the same.

Huge game for PWR down the road tonight. Let's go and get it Red!

The same exact football/hockey/volleyball thing happened 2 years ago, and there was no band.

Also, tonight will be a good visual representation of how hockey is "oh, and there's this other thing you can go to sometimes" rather than "a thing you go to." I'll have to wait and see, but this could end up being the smallest student section I've seen, including holidays. (I've never been to a New Year's week game, FWIW.)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

Thanks for doing your part gwhinwi! I think we all feel much better now.

Yes, the B1G Championship should take a major toll on attendance. We never had to worry about that when I was in school. ;)

Re: Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

Yeah, UNO has more of a student section. Let the silliness commence.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

Horrible start, but getting better and better as the game goes on. Let's get this deal done!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

Bummer to see them go up 4-3 and then give up 4 unanswered. Defense kept getting exposed throughout.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

Berry might be getting a little ****ed at his weak side defenseman. Was it 3 or 4 backside goals. Though for the most part, was a good game to watch online. The football game not so much.

This seems to be a recurring problem....is it a scheme problem or talent deficiency? Both?

Re: Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

I don't think you can just hang all those on the D, a lot of those were a team effort. Not picking up, not backchecking, having three F's that are gassed below the line and turning it over, etc., there's plenty to learn there. It's funny how in hockey you make a bad mistake and sometimes 20, 30 or even 40 seconds later it ends up in the back of your net. I think Berry was alright, he probably had a chance on 2 of 6 and stood tall on some other breaks.

Too bad too because the boys really worked for their own goals.

Saw Freddy between periods and see he has two fingers and his wrist in a cast. He may make it back just in time to lose him to the WJC, or mabe not 'til the second half.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

Even at even strength, it was pretty apparent how UNO has such great power play numbers. Wowwie.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

The quality of the D corps will take 2-3 years to get to where they need to be. Even Greenway, the most highly regarded D had moments of excellent play followed my moments of yikes that was bad, but he's a young fella. It was good to play a high flyin team like UNO just before the B6 starts because the OSU, PSU and UM2 teams play with that octane. I think the B6 title can be in play just because the B6 is not strong, the systematic D play will improve as the year goes on, and I like Berry in goal.

How the hell did this happen? I thought recruiting defensemen was Eaves' strength? Just shows that he lost his touch, I guess.

It was his strength via Oseicki, once oz left Eaves couldn't do it alone.

Re: the B6, I think penn state is the class of the field. I wonder if Berenson has finally lost it. Lucia has become an enigma. I'm very surprised at how mn's seasons have gone of late. In-state rivals have the upper hand on them and that's just bizarre.

It's obviously been covered often, but everything sure went south on him in a hurry.

Defensively Jack Dougherty could be a Junior, (although he's now playing with the Admirals in the A) Opilka could be a Soph, (instead he had a terrible start for Kitchener this year and then had hip surgery and is out 4-6 months minimum) Keegan Ford could be a Junior, (Does anybody know what he's doing? He's not on Tech's roster? ) and Matt Berkovitz could be a Freshman or Soph, but after being super highly touted at 16-17 and a 5th round Ducks pick at 18, he had 14pts in his first 95 USHL games and is off the radar. (He could still pan out for somebody, he's still a very good skater.)

If just K. Ford and Matt Berkovitz lived up to their billing I guess we'd be in a better place, but they both have to go in the books as misses for different reasons. Not a lot of room for misses on the D end.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey, Vol II: Rebuild, Refresh, and Renew!

The women's game today was medicine for the UW sports fan soul.

Oh yes, 8 goals and almost all were pretty one on three, great passes and just kicked the crap out of the goofers. It was fantastic to watch and the best I have ever seen the women play. Their D on Minnesota's backside breakout pass allowed one goal and almost another and needs to be corrected, but other than that it was so much fun. Crazy sign guy ran out of numbers......

from the MTU - off season thread: "According to Mel on the WCHA preseason media teleconference, Keegan Ford is dealing with some anxiety issues and will not be on campus this fall. There is a possibility he could be added for the spring semester, but that's not guaranteed yet. Mel expressed his hope that Keegan gets healthy first."

Great family, I just hope everything works out for him. If not in hockey then I hope he finds his path in life.....
