it's going to be a very long tough year. next year will be exactly like this one as only 3 players are added.

UW Hockey - Sending out an S.O.S

You can't completely ignore the progress made from year to year in development.

true but which players are you referring to who've improved from last year to this? Barnes, LaBate, Navin and Lee all the same if not back 1-2 steps. Dahl, Little, Meuer, Little...I don't know. Faust, Simonelli are about the same.

the improvements I see are Rumpel, Peterson and McCabe.

still that's nowhere near enough to get past Michigan or Minnesota next year

EDIT - I'm sure you're talking about progress in the current players from this year to next but I'd argue that it would be Kerdiles, Schulze, Witthow (sp?), Zulinick that have a ceiling to reach. maybe I'm pessimistic but the rest have plateaued IMO

Everyone's optimism going into this year was based on the guys progressing. With all the injuries guys had lots of chances to progress/step up. Other than Mersch, no one is progressing this year, what make one think the non-progressors will progress next year? Under Eaves, guys who arrive as scorers leave as scorers and guys who arrrive as non-scorers leave as non-scorers. Whose the last guy Eaves brought in who pleasantly surprised us with their progression? How many guys have we sat here and typed about discussing where their scoring ability has gone or why haven't they progressed?

I had high expectations for the 1st line and they pretty much were non-existent, other than a few flurries. Maybe it will take time to develop chemistry, but time is running out.

The frustrating part for me is that I think that the lineup that Wisconsin put forth tonight has a legitimate top six. Do they have a national championship lineup? No, but their top 6 is as good as any in the league. I'm not sure what the problem is right now. Is it game plan? Is it coaching? The talent up front doesn't match the output.

I think the top 4 guys are top 2 line guys on on any team (Zengerlee, Kerdiles, Lee, Mersch), the rest, meh.

Is it time to kill the 1 1 3 yet?

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. 22 - Let's not have another cheesy thread title... Wait, W

8,756 tonight in attendence....wow just unbelievable. I have a thought, maybe the fact that no body is in the stands makes UW play bas not UW playing bad causing empty seats. I'd assume no body thought of that. I go to quite a bit of UW bball, football, and hockey games, fan energy has plan and simple just decreased the last year or two. According to USCHOs attendence stats page UW was averaging 15,000 a game in 2010, I don't see how there can be such a decrease to the 8000 we saw tonight just because UW is playing below average, who cares come out and support your team. I see how people can say economic trouble has become an issue over the years but hockey has deals with the tickets and compared to football a heck of a lot cheaper.
Going back to the lack of fan energy, the home games this year when we scored a goal only half of my section actually stood up and cheered the others sat there like bums, and it flippin ticks me off. Your at the game for a reason cheer your team on.

This might be corny but I don't even care anymore, the fans are preforming just as bad as the team this year, POOR.

I'd comment, but I don't live in Madison and I don't go to games much anymore. I'm part of the problem.

Someone just sent this to me on twitter, not sure if it was one of you guys. "Can only win a title if you have a few Nick Licari's but you can't win a title with a team full of Nick Licari's! "

Pretty spot on, eh?

I'd argue UW has 2 guys that are superior talents: Zengerle and Kerdiles.

Mersch is good but he's like a Jack Skille to me, enigmatic and he doesn't control play. He'd be a 3rd liner on a National Championship Team.

Derek Lee to me isn't even in the equation. he's the Nick Checco (rat player) or Niki Siren...came in with hype, really hasn't done much.

I'm sure I'll catch heat for this and that's fine, but this team just has a *severe* lack of talent, AND the hyper-intensive emphasis on forwards being aware of their defensive play leads to tentative offense and 0 creativity as we've seen all season long.

Most of us saw Dany Heatley and Steven Reinprecht play at UW. Some of us saw , Zent, Fairchild, Schier, Moore, some of us saw Tony Granato, Scott Mellanby, Steve Tuttle, Paul Ranheim et al play prior to that.

there isn't a player on this team that can match any 1 of the guys above. not 1 (caveat - unless Kerdiles stays 3 years and explodes offensively). If Eaves intends to stay he needs to land more Besse's, Earl's and Pavelski's and he needs to do it in bunches asap (I think) in order to retain his job.

Re: WISCONSIN Hockey Vol. 22 - Let's not have another cheesy thread title... Wait, W

one other item...d-men break out passes. TERRIBLE. they're constantly passing behind our forwards. in our d-zone they've been good this year but attempting to break out? sorry to say but they suck at generating offense or rushes

Not sure what team you've been watching but it was obvious tonight (and all season) that Michael Mersch has been the best forward on this club. To compare him to a freshman Jack Skille and a third liner is a slap in the face.

no it's not. Because while I enjoy Michael's effort I can tell you, if he was on the 06, 90, 77, 73, 81 or 83 team he's a 3rd liner. Chuck/Andy I have to feel you know this as well. I've seen UW w/real talent up and down the line-up in years past and I'm telling you Mersch is good but not GREAT. he's a 3rd line guy that helps put you over the edge.

I disagree with you. Michael Mersch is a top 6 winger in any lineup in the country, in any era.

you didn't see UW's 1984-1994 teams then. not a chance he's top 2-line guy on those teams. I won't speak to other teams around the country in what they'd say exactly *but* I'd wager Michigan, Minnesota, Nodak, DU and BC would have good arguments as well the kid is a 3rd liner on an NCAA Title winning team.

you can't let the fact he's leading a **** team in scoring cloud the longview.
