Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

Re: Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

Looking ahead to Saturday, they are going to be honoring the 1977 championship team.

It was an amazing team that won a few games in spectacular fashion. (exhibits A and B)

One of the key players was Mike Eaves.

He is supposed to be back in town for the game Saturday.

I hope that the crowd shows him the love and respect that he deserves.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

Agreed.

Firing him was the right thing to do, but he would deserve every second of any standing ovation that the crowd might give him.

39% on the PowerPlay. Can you imagine? Eaves on the left, Mark Johnson on the right, Craig Norwich and John Taft up top, and Steve Alley at the net. All played in the NHL and frankly, if the NHL was like it is now back then, Mark Johnson would have been a NHL Superstar. As it was, he was still pretty darn good. They all were, and that team was easily within the handful of greatest college teams ever. Special weekend at the Kohl and I hope they all get a great welcome home. Always Badgers!

Embarrassing "effort" to this point. Completely flat.

Luckily I got comped in a box tonight.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

We have won 6 straight conference Championships in a row, so every year is a Gopher Championship year.

Lulz

That's so Jan.

:D:D:D

Seriously can't believe a Gopher fan just said that.

Lololololol

Re: Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

This is all you got? :D

I mean, what am I supposed to say to that?

We're building towards our next National Championship, not a B1G Title. Does anyone actually care about the B1G title?

Does a program of our's stature proclaim a conference championship a "Championship Season?"

Pathetic.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

On another note, out team save % was .722.

Ouch.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

Also pathetic? JD Greenway. Good lord.

Even with that stupidity that cost us a goal, he (and, to be fair, pretty much all of our defenders) seemingly forgot that hockey doesn't use the same offside rule as soccer. High lines with forwards getting past all night.

I get your point but 6 in a row is impressive on some level even if its the Big Ten. Like I always say Gurt if you don't win the National Championship you are a loser. Second place is for the birds.;)

Sure. They're great. I guess. I just don't care. Honestly.

Teams that reach a certain level of success, either historically or as part of a run, are reaching for loftier goals.

A division championship would be cool for the Brewers. I still wouldn't call it a "Championship Season," but I'd acknowledge it as a good accomplishment for the franchise.

Don't care when the Packers win the North. They're competing for World Championships. Every year.

Don't care when the Blackhawks win whatever division they're in. I don't even know what it's called. And don't care. On their current run, they are trying to accumulate as many Cups as they can before the window shuts.

Badger hockey?

Show that you are on the right path... Upwards on a consistent and sustained path.

Conference and tournament championships will be the byproduct of this path, but National Championships will always be the goal.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

Are you honestly trying to suggest that if the Badgers had become the first program in history to win 6 straight conference championships, you wouldn't be holding that up as a pretty lofty accomplishment? Just stop.

Are you honestly trying to suggest that because you hold these as lofty that everyone else must also? is that the only way to look at it?

Like I said. It's great.

It's not the ultimate goal though.

I'd be disappointed that the Badgers hadn't cashed in on at least one of those seasons with a Championship. Opportunity lost for a program of our stature.

2011-2017 is opportunity lost for the Packers.

I'm being honest. I don't see why it's hard to believe that I'd have higher expectations or hopes for some of my teams than others. Or why my hopes/expectations for my team might be different from someone who follows a lesser program.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

Is Matty J done for the season? I heard he got injured from a friend at the game.

Didn't look good.

Leg buckled under him and he couldn't put and weight on it.

Was flopping around on all fours and then had to push his own net off to get the whistle.

Needed help off the ice.

I can see how a Wisconsin fan would be happy not winning conference championships, and because of that, not getting invited to the NCAA's, and because of that, firing your coach. It sure makes tickets cheap and easy to get. You guys seemed to have got used to losing, so OK by me.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey G2O - Making UW Hockey Great Again

Congrats to the goofs on their B1G title. Conference championships measure where you start just as much as where you finish. That the goofs have won so many conference titles indicates that they have started with more, more often than the Badgers. Or put another way, the Badgers have started with less but finished with more, more often than the goofs. We're perfectly fine with that.

Boys were as tight as they've been all season and I can't say I didn't expect it. I was a bit worried that all the extra curricular activities going on this week might have an effect on the players. They've been immersed in Badger history and all the great things that have happened here in the past. 60 alumni in and of course a lot of talk about how great they all were and how much they won. You get around that and you want to be just as great, want to put the program back on the right track, you want to be heroes too... Thing is, all you have to do is just go out there and play your game. You can't carry the weight of all these expectations around with you 24/7 and still do what you're supposed to do at the highest level.

Tight, tentative, worried about making mistakes-- it's a recipe for disaster and it's exactly how they played. Once the thing was out of hand they relaxed and played well. Let's hope it's out of their system and they just go out there and play the game tonight.

It appears that the goalie situation is resolved. Matt's injury did not look good at all, and while you can never tell for sure, I gotta believe he's done for the year. Tough on Jack to come right back after having a less than stellar outing, but he's been very good mentally all year and I think there's reason to have some confidence that he can be the man down the stretch.

Your best players have to be your best players when it counts. Kunin, Hughes, Frederick, Besse, have to carry the load, play 200' and make things happen. Let's Go Red!
