Wisconsin Hockey 25-26 Hastings Year 3 - Turning the Corner?

I am old 75 this year. I am retired and moved to the desert but still follow the team. Moved to Madison in 95. A friend invited me to Hockey in 2000 at the Kohl. My ist game, the David Hukalo game against North Dakota. GW over time goal. The place was packed to the rafters. I was hooked from then on. Had season tix in section 119 and 108 over 20 years. Its been up and down all these years. Was able to see all the ncaa games in person in 2006. What a treat. Never forget.

I started going to games in the late 70's. My high school (Sun Prairie) did not have hockey as a Varsity/JV sport until my junior year so I grew up playing basketball. But we would go to games and watch Mark Johnson skate circles around us at Memorial. In the early 80's I got season tickets from a friend who worked for the UW.

Sorry folks, been caught up in Olympics, but been lurking here a bit, as I just don't have the emotional energy reserves to keep up lately after I bloodletted last week.

I started watching the Badgers in the late 80s, and seminal family Thanksgiving discussions were had regarding "The Water Bottle Fight". First core watching memory was seeing them win it all in 1990 from my friend's couch in Hartland, WI. Went to a bunch of Badger Hockey Showdowns as well at Bradley Center.

I primarily went to road games after moving away in 1996 in the east since they started the Big10, which honestly have all been pretty darn fun.

I'm 56 and grew up in Illinois to UW alums who didn't know hockey at all. While visiting grandparents in Reedsburg in the early 80s, I discovered the PBS late night broadcasts after everyone else went to bed and was hooked. Started "following" the Badgers as best I could in the Hockey News that I had a subscription to.

Went to school in LaCrosse in 89 and was finally able to follow the program more closely with radio broadcasts and the PBS stuff. I remember the bar we watched the 1990 natty champ game in and Brett Kurtz was in my class back home and grew up in my neighborhood. Used to play neighborhood sports with him.

EDIT: Just remembered that I was in a certain women's asst coach's apartment in LaX in 92 watching us lose to Lake State with him. It's funny how small a world hockey is that he would go on to coach at UW. I also ended up coaching with and having my kid coached by a lot of those 90 Badgers. Even played against a couple in men's league. RIP

Moved to Madison in December of 93 and bought football tix right away but it was still tough at that time to get tix at the Coliseum - only got to games here and there. Bought Saturday season tix at the KC first season there. Had the Saturday tix for probably 20 years and later grabbed 4 Friday seats once we had kids and had both into maybe 2013 or 14.

Saw that same ^ Hukalo game and getting to see Heatley play was awesome - man amongst boys. Lots of other Badger greats too but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention getting to see Toews and Oshie and many other great Sioux and Rodent players.

Got to all 4 of the 06 tourney games and that Cornell game is still seared in my memory. Our Friday tickets were in the section with the UW parents and Geoffrion's parents were next to us - his dad is a really nice guy. Some of the other parents weren't as nice haha. Just like any sports parents, a few were catty at times.

Badger Hockey - men's and women's - has been such a fun ride.

The program was in serious decline by the time we let our tickets go but the death blow to our season ticket holder status was my son's high school career. Missed too many Badger games and couldn't unload our unused tickets.

These days we go to games here and there and they're so easy to get now that there's no point to season tickets. We also spread ourselves around more and hit hoops, volleyball, women's hockey and even softball.

Going tonight though!

Just not enough offensive fire power. It's unfortunate they couldn't play like this earlier this year. The second goal should have been caught with the glove. I'm not sure how he missed it. Apparently didn't play enough ball as a kid.

Still can't complain about only allowing two goals.

O$U at Ped. St. on Big 10 network. Guess I have to root for Ped. St.(n)

McKenna with OT winner. O$U gets a point. O$U is 10 points behind us with 12 up for grabs for them and 6 for us. We'll be fortunate to get much at Ped.St. O$U has 2 at Sparty and 2 at home vs. Notre Dame, so they're getting at least 6 points. Can they find at least 4 more, or can we get 3 at Ped. St? We lose tie breaker with O$U.

Badgers outplayed Fichigan by a decent margin but yeah... couldn't buy a goal.

Michigan could have had at least 5 more penalties than what were called. They clearly wanted to play physical tonight but were over the line with clutching & grabbing, interference and cross checks all over the place. Refs would be looking right at it and let it go.

Oh well... probably wouldn't have scored anyway the way things were going tonight.

Place was pretty full - haven't seen fans to the ceiling in a long, long time.

Hard to believe....but it was apparently the largest-ever KC hockey crowd.

Despite the loss, badgers finish the weekend at 13 in the NPI. Looking ahead they’ve got a weekend off, Penn state the following Thursday/friday, and then b10 quarterfinals the following Wednesday (as of now would be home against OSU)

I figure if they can manage a split with PSU and beat their first round opponent they’ve got a good chance of sneaking into the tourney. Behind the badgers are UConn and a big clump of ccha teams that have been beating up on each other for the past month. It’s obviously hard to say how it will shake out but their spot right now could be worse.

Outplayed Michigan all weekend. Friday was the most dominant game I saw this year. Saturday was more even, but they carried the play but couldn't score. And Michigan definitely could have gotten many more penalties, but at least the Badgers didn't fall for it and get involved. Can't decide which team and coach I hate more: Ped St and Mich are 1 and 1A.

Kohl Center hadn't been sold out with the new layout (additional seats), so it was a record....

I have no complaints about the last 2 games. It's a positive trend. Hopefully the week off doesn't sap the positive movement. I wonder if Hauser will be available with the week off.

Been a forum reader for a while but making my first post. Seeing others give their fandom background in this thread, figured why not.

I'm 45. Got my start with Badger hockey like some others, with the delayed WPT broadcasts in the early 90s, staying up late by myself to watch with PB and Howie on the call. Made it to a few Badger Hockey Showdowns in MKE (I know I was at the one where they faced the Lakers in the final).

Was a Crease Creature my first two years at UW, with student section tickets for Fri and Sat, which was also the first two years of the Kohl Center.

Remember hosting a watch party for the 2006 title game with friends.

Moved to the Twin Cities in 2012 after having gone back to UW for my graduate degree. Have still followed the Badgers closely but haven't made it to many games in recent years.

But...thanks to Badger women's hockey, my interest has been rekindled in recent years. The younger of my two boys is now 9, and about 5 years ago he ended up getting really into the Badger women's program. Mostly by chance...we had season football tickets for several years, and my wife was down in Madison using the tickets with friends one weekend. I suggested the boys and I go to Mankato to catch Badger women's hockey.

The rest is history. He loved the sport, loved you could sit wherever you wanted, and ended up choosing the glass which has become our tradition. Thanks to the WCHA, we've been getting to as many games as we can the last five years - Saturday games in Mankato and St. Cloud, both at St. Thomas and Minnesota, and the last three years we've gone up to Duluth for the series. Even did Bemidji last season, and of course the Frozen Four here in our backyard.

A few weeks ago we were in Madison for the weekend, and managed to go to the men's Saturday win over Notre Dame and the women's Sunday win over Ohio St. He was thrilled to get to a home game, and I was equally thrilled to feel the energy of a UW hockey atmosphere again.

Nice to meet fellow Badger fan posters virtually on this board. I'll likely post more on the women's threads, but On, Wisconsin! For the men, let's just get into the tourney this year and see if we can't pull off a few Ws.

Thanks for posting man! I’m seldom here anymore but close in age (43), grew up going to every Saturday game with dad in the 80s/90s. A different time for sure. We’re all hoping Hastings gets this thing turned around to become perennial contenders again.
