Wisconsin Hockey 21-22: Your Guess Is As Good As Mine

Back to back wins against top 5 teams. Even scored on the pp. Allowed no ppgs. Moe was great though I think he was out of control on #2. Keep the faith.

The euphoria has worn off (or does it when you dagger the rodent in ot?). Still a lot of positives. They generated a good amount of high quality chances. It seems like the guys are figuring things out gel-wise.

Ceulmanns played a heck of a game. He looked like a first rounder out there. He made some nice D plays and was offensive without hanging the team out to dry, which is also a testament to the team reacting to his play and covering. He almost had an end to end rush goal, he lost he puck at the last second after he Swiss cheesed the rodents. The great thing about that play is that he wasn't looking to do it from the moment he got the puck like we've seen from other guys in the past, he was bringing it up ice in control looking for an outlet, the play developed in the N zone, he took advantage of it, he didn't force it. And the PPG he scored he just blew it by the sieve. The key will be that he doesn't try and do too much as he gains confidence.

Obviously allowing almost 50 sog is not good. They need to take away more time and space and make it harder to get into the O zone. The rodents did have a lot more dominant periods of cycling in the O zone than UW did.

Watts a crazy play on the own goal. It was not obvious that Malmquist was the last to touch the puck or that he wasn't the last to touch it on any replay. I just hope a ref actually had his eyes on the play, but the way they reacted I don't think either did. A lot of times you see the ref do an emphatic point point point when a non-obvious goal is scored. That was not the case here at all. They both were like "Watts the hell just happened?".

It's a lock we'll see Roe tonight, but a guy could make a case that Moe earned another start.

Absolutely zero interest in the goofer series on this board. What a disappointment.....

Really? Disappointed? That implies you had some hope for something hockey related? Lol sorry but I've learned to stay away from this program. It's a loser.

I didn't even know about the series until my mom texted me. I shrugged it off because it doesn't matter. Badger program won't do anything with Granato.

Edit: I appreciate your loyalty WiscTJK. But...ya.

Granato and Oz have to know the state of the program is way, way, way past unacceptable. They played in the days of Badger Power and dominance. Shouldn't they step aside for the best of the program and the state of hockey in Wisconsin?

Going 2-2 against top 5 teams the last two series isn't some terrible thing. The beginning schedule was always going to be rough. Now starts the stretch of games that they should be winning a whole lot more than losing.

I don't get why you don't go back to the goaltender who had a monster night the night before.

Not only that, but then you yank Rowe after Laatsch doesn't tie his guy up. Rowe blows up when he gets to the bench and then does not come out for the 3rd period. TG accused Rowe of putting himself ahead of the team. TG defends the move that we was trying top spark the team. He keeps playing this card over and over again and it never works, except maybe once last year IIRC. TG has yanked more goalies in his tenure than the total of the Sauer and Eaves periods combined. He doesn't have a clue how to spark the team. His judgement of goaltending talent is highly suspect. The goaltending coaching has been questioned ever since he got here. He better be careful with the portal out there a player is no longer trapped on a team or penalized for leaving. What goalie would want to play for him with his proven mismanagement/abuse of goalies? I would not be shocked if Rowe ended up in the transfer portal. He is running this program into the ground. I almost wish last year never happened.

Tim, while I agree 100%, you are always the shining beacon of positivity. You know it's not a good sign when they lose Timmy!

I'm always going to watch them and root them on, that will never change. I love hockey and I love WI.

I am kind of obsessed with goaltending. One of my sons was a hockey goalie and one was a soccer goalie. If I would have been able to play hockey as a kid, I would have been a goalie. 95% of goalie yanks are due to their performance. Occasionally you yank the goalie to get the team's attention. I get it. But when you do it SO often, it just loses it's effect. We all know this as parents, right? If you scream at the kids all the time, it loses it's effect. Or with drinking, right? The more thinner you drink, the more you need to wash away reality. I'm just sick and tired of TG treating the goalies like crap. I sure hope TDM does some research on this and writes a great story about it. There is a story to be told there for sure.

I wonder how Ceulmanns is doing after that dirty hit by that rodent. Too bad Merch (I think) retaliated, it cost them 2 minutes on the major. They have a lot of D who are injured right now.

Yeah that hit was really bad and dirty. Hopefully the young man isn't hurt too badly.... and the offender got a one game suspension which seems light to me.

Milewski did write a story about it: https://madison.com/wsj/sports/coll...cle_9fedb4ca-7b86-525a-919d-4787562af603.html

I agree Moe should have had the second start this weekend. But, I am going to disagree that the pulling didn't work. Did it lead to scoring? No. But it stopped the bleeding - perhaps sparking the D. Rowe has a bad habit of losing his temper, not just on the bench like this week, but visibly in the crease usually after he gives up a second goal in a game. It affects his play, and if he gives up two, he has a tendency to soon have given up four, five or six. It's a bad pattern. Coaches need to balance that, too. Spark vs. having a team face an unsurmountable hole. Like I say, Moe has shown to have more poise this year, and if there is a change I would have liked to see from the coaches, it would have been an adjustment in their plans to have both goalies start in rotation. I would have put Moe in Saturday and stuck with him as a go-to until he falls off.

I don't hate Rowe getting pulled this week. He needed to be, even if bad D caused that fourth goal. Pulling him stopped the bleeding and the Badgers didn't give up a goal after that.

True, but how in the world is Rowe going to grow as a player if he is not allowed to work through a bad game on his own? That game was over, so whether you lose 4-1 or 8-1, there is no difference. And maybe he would not have allowed any more goals? Yes? Maybe? Do you want your goalie looking at the bench after giving up 3 to see if the other guy is jumping over the boards every time? As a player you want the coaches to believe in you, right? How often does a F or D get benched for the balance of a game after a couple bad plays? Not very often. They just go out the next shift and try to play better.

Well, Ceulemans is out and Inamoto is back in. It reads that a 5 F pp is going to be used. Surely there are 2 D that are more worthy to run the point then 2 F. I have nightmares of SH breakaways dancing in my head. We shall see. Let's go RED!

Not good tonight. I'll reserve judgment until after tomorrow. Now a short handed empty net goal. Tony, at least you could win the face off before you pull the goalie.

1 step forward, 2 back. I can’t take any more years of this. I’m losing interest fast. I’ve watched the badgers since the 90’s…..

I've watched sine the early 80s. I lived on the same dorm floor as Tony in 83-84. After the home games we'd watch replays of the games on PBS and drink Stroh's his dad brought from Downers Grove. Saw all the brothers and sisters when they were little kids. Great family and he was a great guy then and I'm sure he is now. I've been pulling for him all along, but this just isn't working. I don't know why but it's not. The team just looks lost and disorganized far too often.

Well I'm sure glad UW got through the murder's row games to get to these more "winnable" games. LOL

First period looked good. Gorniac was terrorizing UND. UND made adjustments and UW did not counterpunch/counter adjust and that was it. Terrible penalties. Laastch was burned twice when he didn't tie the guy's stick up that he was right on. Him and Kehrer were on the ice for all 4 goals, was TG gonna yank them to send a message to the team? Nope. I was shocked after the 3rd he didn't yank Moe.

There is hope that Appleman could make a change in coaching, he did fire the Soccer coach yesterday. He had a winning record in 2018 and was at .500 this year, but was canned. The only negative is that he was not renewed the last 2 years, whereas TG has been.

Tony Granato is still my favorite badger player of all-time and Mark Osiecki and Mark Strobel were great badgers but god damn it this program deserves better than what Granato, Eaves and the last 6 years of Sauer.

27 years of mediocre hockey. INEXCUSABLE.

fire the staff, fire the people who sharpen the skates. Everyone involved in the losing culture must go.

NOW.
