Re: Wisconsin Hockey 2018-2019: We can have a witty thread title when we start winnin

Wisconsin Hockey Backers luncheon today. Brian Posick is always the host.

Coach said Lebby will start both nights. Berry is having a back problem but Lebedeff was going to start tonight regardless. Jake Bunz was there and spoke for a few minutes. Nice kid.

Weisbach was hit by a slapper which shattered some knuckles. Had a plate and pins inserted but will heal faster than if they did nothing. Maybe a few weeks.

Sounds like we've got some GREAT talent incoming, but Tony couldn't mention names. They'll be at the games this weekend so hopefully the crowds are big and boisterous. Bob Motzko was under the weather and couldn't make it. Tony said he really wanted to show up.

One of Victoria B.C.'s finest, "NEWBS" John ****ING Newberry was there with his lady friend! I had to take a selfie with him since he was always one of my favorites. He's a hoot and a ****ing beast. I'm not a small guy (big frame), but I shook his hand and my hand disappeared!

Also present ( I hope I get them all), Mike Dibble, Gary Enberg, Ron Vincent, Kurt Semandel, Tony Scheid. I hope I didn't forget anybody. 2 WI hockey TV legends were also there...Bob Leu and Bill Brophy.

The most important question to Tony (which I happened to ask, but not in front of everybody) , "Where are the National Championship stars on the back of the sweaters?" He told me they will be back; apparently there was something wrong with the placement of the last names.

The next luncheon is in December; if you guys have time it's really a blast and lasts about an hour. Esquire Club food was great.

I am going to have to make that next time. Sounds like a blast.

I wonder if there are imminent commitments coming, or if that's just about the verbal recruits we already know. (I forget exactly what the rule is for coaches making public statements about unsigned recruits.) Regardless, I do think Wisconsin is becoming an attractive destination for top players once again.

I don't think I'm letting anything out and he wouldn't say it if he wanted it private, but Tony mentioned they're probable 1st rounders. Time will tell.

I know these kids want to win, and down years hurt, but I can't imagine why UW wouldn't always be a top destination. Great campus, fun culture, strong academics, great hockey tradition.

The coeds can't hold a candle to Nodak women, but the players can always visit home for that.

Is there a live stream available for purchase for those who don’t have cable?

Looks like it’s on BTN2GO. I dunno if that requires cable or not.

Couple notes from the 1st period:
-badgers playing the 4-on-4 like it was a penalty kill was pretty annoying
-badgers failed TWICE to get the puck out of the zone before their penalty. Gotta clean that up as it’s a recurring theme.
-PK something’s gotta change, Minnesota had at least two grade A chances. Lebedeff stood tall on both chances.
-I love our defensemen. Fantastic with the puck. Huge contrast to last year (looking at you, Linhart...)

Wide open game. Pretty evenly matched; could be because both teams are on a rebuild .

EDIT. (Dropped my phone) Beautiful pass by Z and score by Kal.

Awesome top cheddar.

Got ugly real quick. Weird first goal then the D started running around. Suddenly we're behind. ****.

At least they played hard tonight. Or looked like they gave a ****. Better than previous Granto efforts.

Granato is in 3rd year. Time to win. Congrats on effort is not enough. Get it together already.

When it was 2-zip, I thought maybe we've got something going, but the goofs score 3 in 1:14 and win. Pitlick's was legit, but the other 2 sucked. Frustrating game but like druzy posted, they played hard.

I would love a dollar for every WI-MN game I've been to (home and away) and we lost.

Play 60 minutes.

BTW, Ranta didn't stand out, but I think he got a helper.

I’d like to hear what joeyv’s thoughts are at this point.

Driving home I heard the "announced" attendance was 8900-something. In house? HAHAHA!

I also heard a LOT of empty seats. Even the Gopher fans in attendance were dismayed at the lack of Gopher presence there, saying "it's not like the old days."

Not ****ing close. I apologize for continuing to bag on this, but it's really too bad things aren't like the past.
Bring back the WCHA.

I've had it. I'm sick of the losing. Start winning.

Year three and they are still just a .500 or worse team. #1 picks blah blah blah.

Start winning. Now!

I'm with ya, man. But it'll never happen. It sucks. That, and as the big name programs go more corporate, the crowds get neutered in their participation. Can't say this, can't do that.....this is hockey! It's supposed to be blood and guts and life and death.

I dunno the prices out there, but SRO for MN homes games are something like $40/game now. Add parking and eats to that, ugh.
