Wisconsin Hockey 2018-2019: We can have a witty thread title when we start winning

He had to make that trip to explain that ****ing debacle last Saturday and get down on his knees and beg Graham to sign and stay 3 years! 😁

Absolutely! And Graham would be perfectly right to question not just the season but “hey are you going to call 13 consecutive running plays when i’m There?”

I think Chryst knows what he’s got. If he can convince two good receivers to come hen UW’s offense should be great.

Biggest weekend of the year so far coming up vs. #6 PSU. Sounds like Linus is very iffy to play. Tony talked about possibly just getting him on the PP if he can go at all, which sounds like an odd plan. Seems like if he can go he should go, and if he can't, he should be held out. Too many big games ahead in the second half to risk anything with him. But then again, I'm not privy to what the doc has to say about his injury.

So important to get a win this weekend. I have thought all along that if the boys can be somewhere within striking distance of .500 at the break, they would be in good shape. Splitting MI on the road was a good step. 6 of the next 8 games are vs. #'s 6, 7 and 8 in the country so there is plenty of opportunity to make up ground. To get their heads above water and have a shot at an at-large tourney spot they would just have to keep playing well and then get on a little roll of 4 or 5 in a row somewhere. The chances of doing that with a young team are usually better later in the season, provided they have been growing the whole time. They showed some good growth last week, so now the task is to carry that into this week and get a little better again. If they can they'll be in a good place.

I agree with most of your post. However, how can you say "keep playing well" and "They showed some good growth last week," after starting out 4-2 and then going the next 8 at 1-5-2? I am just not seeing it at this point....

Insert random internet nodding head gif.

I like Wisko's positivity. He saw the games and for the most part liked what he saw. We'll get to see for ourselves this weekend. I REALLY dislike PSU.

Sounds like Linus is very iffy to play.

Milewski is saying that he isn't taking part in contact drills. Gotta do the smart thing and keep him out of the game if he isn't allowed to take contact yet.

If you think a team's record is directly correlated to how they play and whether they have improved it's no wonder you are in a tailspin....

They haven't really improved offensively since early in the season and you could make a strong argument they have gotten worse (4 goals in the last four games isn't improvement). There continued Friday night woes has continued from last year and hasn't improved (1-5-1 this year on Fridays; 0-5-1 in last 6 series). I have seen several Friday night games and know this to be true.

There appears to be some improvement in defense and goalie play with the new players and I see less silly turnovers. That part is good.

Lebedeff in the crease Friday, Linus doubtful, but we knew that.

Getting better?

FROM TODD MILEWSKI...."Unless the #Badgers score at least four goals on Friday against No. 6 Penn State, they'll have the lowest scoring average for November in team history".

And still taking multiple bad penalties per game.

Last weekend was a good step but overall still not NCAA worthy.

Fortunately, the fate of a College Hockey team isn't decided by how many goals they score in November, but rather how well they play in February and March.

3 timely power play goals in Nov. would have them still the worst scoring team in November history, but they'd be 8-6 and in the top 16. So while I agree that the scoring slump is a big deal, it's certainly not the whole story of how this team is evolving.

I have a positive feeling about how they played last week but I'm not predicting a win tonight, or a win tomorrow night. They haven't been consistent week to week or night to night very much. IF they carry it forward and play as well as they did last week both nights, I think they will at least get a win this weekend against a very good team that they are (rightly so) big underdogs to.

IF they go backwards and play like they did at OSU, they will likely get crushed.

I know a couple Badger fans here will be especially excited to hear Jake Linhart has moved up to the AHL Hershey Bears after a strong start with the ECHL Adirondack Thunder. Congrats Jake! :)

Elsewhere Grant Besse is over a point/game and leading the South Carolina Sting Rays in scoring with 22 in 19gp. Fellow Badger Timmy Davison is 5th on the team with 11 in 19. I'll probably go watch the boys play the Everblades tomorrow night.

If they dig themselves a very deep hole, Feb & March do not mean Jack Schitt. I agree that goal scoring is not the entire story Wisko, but they're on the verge of being the lowest scoring ever and you still have to score goals to win even if the tendies have a low GAA.

I have a lot of respect for what Gadowsky has done and the 9 digit Pegula donation (which is chump change to them), and the hockey program is not the football program, BUT......I still hate, Ped State.

**** 'EM, BUCKY! Not literally.

Not to be overly pedantic, but you literally cannot dig yourself a hole so deep in November you cannot get out of it. This team has the worst whatever in history in November and if they win 4 measly games the next two weekends they would likely be in first place in the B1G and in the top 16 PWR. They can lose 3 and win 6 in March and be the in the Frozen Four, no matter how many they lose in November or between now and then. So I'm going to stick with what I said as being true.

Berry is .944 and The Finnish Hammer is .921 sv% in conference games. We tried scoring more and having .820 sv% last year. Didn't work so good. I like the way they are building this year from the net out more. Be hard to play against, limit your opponents, and possess the puck. If you are consistently good at that stuff, eventually the goals will come. They aren't scoring latey, and they aren't consistent yet, but they are getting better at those things. Just keep at it.

Re: Wisconsin Hockey 2018-2019: We can have a witty thread title when we start winnin

I think the fact remains that we would all like to see two wins in a weekend again. Wouldn't that be a nice thing? Do you remember the days when that would happen? Ah, the memories....

Re: Wisconsin Hockey 2018-2019: We can have a witty thread title when we start winnin

All they have to do is win 4 games in a row in March and they are in the dance. YES!

Re: Wisconsin Hockey 2018-2019: We can have a witty thread title when we start winnin

I don’t believe a .500 or worse team is going through the gauntlet of Minnesota, tOSU, Ped State and Michigan and win 3 of 4.

I would predict for this weekend 5–2, 6-3 scores. It will look closer to OSU series than Michigan. Ped State has Wisconsin’s number and UW can’t score in bunches like psu.
