Wisconsin Badgers 2026 Offseason

Wouldbt surprise me if Murdock isnt long at Shattuck. Outside of the ability for hos to maybe steer guys our way, he prob wants a USHL HC or Asst HC NCAA job which is a relatively plausoble scenario from the Goalie Coach. Who knows.
It's possible he was told to find something else too, or your contract isn't being extended. Who knows. Goalies haven't been stable with him as the goalie coach, so I am hoping for someone to stabilize the position for UW.

It's almost August, no mention of Goalie Coach or roster announcements. I am acthally pretty amazed at how quiet it has been. Even Hastings has been super quiet. Head down, nose to the grindstone approach?
And the non-con schedule hasn't been released either.....

On the roster front, I think the roster as is has a very high floor. Proven goaltending, very solid D, very solid down the middle at center. That’s why Id like to see them take a swing on a forward who could provide some scoring upside, even if it’s a bit riskier.

On the schedule side of things I’m expecting at least one, maybe bothAlaska schools. Probably a different small east coast school if not both Alaskas again. Believe nchc and ccha have already released schedules

If anything, we have learned NPI rewards a strong schedule. Although I really dont think Dartmouth was as good as they appeared on paper.

If theu schedule CCHA/ECHA, it needs to be the top teams.

That being said, I just dont see why Miami is in the NCHC. It makes zero sense. St. THOMAS should have replaced them. Miami has Basketball and Fball to worry about and I just dont see them putting resources into hockey like the other NCHC schools do.

Been gone, but the comments from MJ and Gard just show out of touch meathead Mac was. So that's all good. We will see if this works out, but Eichorst was the safe pick for AD, but he's saying all the right things out of the gate and has fans on two of my favorite UW coaches. Will he clean out the stale athletic directors that need to go and were Mac's yes people? I hope so.

Also, I hope we hear on a new goalie coach soon and they pay the man better than Murdock so they don't lose him to a high school team.
Getting the goalie coach settled will be big. I will say, its a pretty big understatement to refer to SSM as a "high school team". Its an elite level AAA private sports high school, so its not an unreasonable move for the guy depending on what his career aspirations are.

Ok that's fair. They are a hockey powerhouse for sure and being private they can likely pay more.

They were not or UW was just that good and we failed to see it. They baffled DU for 2 periods.

The article said the staff would be filled out in mid-August.

Both are prob true. UW def had it come together at the right time and went on a heater.

Will be interesti g when roster is finally announced. I can't imagine it will be too long.

My understanding is that tuition at the high school is north of 40k, and it doesnt get you on the team (whatever team you are going for), you pay for tuition and THEN you try out to see if you make the team.

Does the UW have a part in these announcements? If so, they sure need help. He is shown in a Womens jersey. I have seen other mistakes that are obvious in a few articles lately.
Lol, no. The image was likely AI generated by someone in the Pietila camp, as it is his post. It's a whoops.

Since the new recruiting cycle has opened, it was kinda silly how many guys from the USNDP/MI natives committed to Sparty. I mean I get it, but it was kinda rediculous.

I did hear a stat that less than 50% of commits from a new cycle actually play for those teams. Likely because they either get injured, someone else gets their spot (esp in the age of CHL eligibility), or they just don't pan out in Juniors.

Wisconsin is disrupting the Pietila pipeline to the U.P. schools. 😆
Luke is a different family than the other Pietila's. This is Adam's (current Badger) brother.

My coworker is close with Luke and Adam's parents. Good to see him coming here. I met his parents and a couple of sisters last season with my coworker when Luke was doing an unofficial visit on a game weekend.

They are cousins to many of the Pietila's that have played in the U.P.

Cousins: Chase Pietila, Grant Pietila, Logan Pietila, Blake Pietila, Jed Pietila, Lee Pietila

I am sure your coach knows the blood line from his CCHA days. Adam was originally going to Northern before he switched to UW.

I'm excited about Luke Pietila committing, if he's anything like his brother it should work out. He's also at the Hlinka cup this week with fellow commits Rooney and Mineman, and Knott as a coach. Rooney seemed to have a good game last night based off the scoresheet.

As for this upcoming year, I'm shocked there's still no roster announcement or official schedule (although I believe all the ooc series are now known). I feel like the team must now by now who the last forward will be and announcement will come with the final roster... right?
