Both Sam Cogan and Brett Pettet missing from the lineup tonight. Don't know why.
Of course MJ won't tell us if they are hurt or he was just trying to shake up the lineup.
I'd call that a solid win tonight. We missed out on free Culvers, though the one out at Easttowne closes earlier now so it's hard to get there before they close on a 7pm game.
Cogen was dressed tonight, and played on the line with Shaver and Norby; that is, where Schneider played last night. Only a half-dozen times, it was Schneider there instead of Cogen. So maybe Cogen is getting over a cold or the flu, etc?
No Pettet again tonight.
They essentially played with no 4th line: Drake played a couple shifts of PK; Schneider subbed in for Cogan, as I said; Rowe took the occasional shift at D; and if Maddie Poseck got on the ice at all, I didn't notice (but she was certainly there and dressed).
Most importantly for Tim, the band was there both nights!
Their passing was a bit more off-target, costing the possession time and making them look less sharp than last night. Up only 2-1 halfway through the 3rd period had me fairly nervous....
Why was that goal waved off? The ref was all over it and called it a goal right away, I didn't notice the timing of the whistle to the puck going in.
Also, what was up with the end of the 2nd period? The whistle blew and there should have been a faceoff in the SCSU zone, but there seemed to be confusion and the refs said the heck with it and the team went into the locker-rooms.
It may be the rarely-called 'Referee Indifference'.
Interesting this team has 1 player at 18 in the top 18 individually in scoring, but are 5th in the country in scoring, though 3.73 is a little lower than one would like to see.
I really love Mauermann with Pankowski and Clark. I hope MJ keeps those 3 together. On the other hand, what would Shirley look like with Clark and Pankowski?
Pettet didn't play this last weekend, injury or scratch?
A few of the girls were sick over the weekend. I hope Pettet gets a shot on one of the top 3 lines at some point! We need to find some scoring combinations soon or we will find ourselves losing a 1 goal game again when it really matters...

This has me a little freaked out honestly. UW is scoring .5 gpg more this year than last year though I thought Clark+Pankoski+Shirley would equal more than .5 gpg more over last year.
Would you agree that Shirley has performed better than expected and that Clark and Pankowski have not? Clark is one of my favorite players but I think she is still not 100%. I would have thought that Pankowski would be leading the NCAA in scoring this year.
I had high expectations for Shirley, I think she's where I thought she'd be, I thought she's be ROTY. I had higher expectations for Clark (due to her speed) than Pankowski, like she'd be a top 5 in the nation scorer with Pankowski easily in the top 10, but yes I think both have underperformed. I agree maybe Clark still has that injury affecting her. Pankowski had some major emotional scars as she herself has written about, but I don't know if that is holding her back. It also could be the lines, getting the right combo to get the right chemistry. That may be the biggest factor. I wonder if they had Roque center Clark and Pankowski how that would work. Roque is a great disher, the other 2 can snipe. I don't know if Clark or Pankowski would like to play without the puck that much. Or swap Clark to the 3rd line. It's interesting for sure. At this point all we can do is hope someone steps up in the ncaa's and gets them the hardware.
I do think wwcha teams really pack the prime shooting areas once the forecheck is humming. I don't think MJ's breakout system creates a lot of on the rush chances, usually it's 2 on 2 or 1 on 2 when they cross the attacking blueline. His forecheck a lot of time keeps a F in the high high slot so that stifles the chances down low. I also think on the forecheck if they are cycling 3 there's no one in front of the net to take a centering pass, like a D needs to sink down. Overall his systems are defence first, offense second. I know in the past they've had some crazy point getters, but the wwcha has way more talent in it that 8 years ago.
so what do you think, is getting the week off for the WCHA tournament preferred or getting to play the #7 team? there is something to be said for if you are on a roll, keep playing
What if you're not on a roll?I'm all about being on a roll and keep playing...
