Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2016-2017

You can go to the Mankato website under schedule and look for the video on demand. 5:46 of the third period Wisconsin's Mauerman started this whole thing by running Mankato's Wittchow into the goalie after the whistle. Up 3-1 in a one sided game but you have to take out the goalie? Why? Listen to how the announcers at the game describe it after watching the replay. Your questioning Harrington's goonieness and class than I question Johnson's also.

Thanks, I didn't know about that feature of their site. Having seen it they both look like the standard BS that gets pulled in hockey all the time. Neither looked as earth shattering as described in posts. I was more surprised by the no call around the 10 minute mark where the player had to go retrieve their stick from the other players skate after bringing her down.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2016-2017

I agree with you. Both hits were not as bad as described on here. Why the no call on the trip, who knows? Other than that, a pretty well refed game.

I have to say that both hits were not the worst thing in the world, but as a goalie it is worse to take a direct knee to the head than to have your defender pushed into you.

From the possible concussion standpoint, I think most can agree with this statement...

They were LAUGHABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They said Mauermann should have got 5 to 10 with hard labor and they could not even bring themselves to say the kato player had even committed a penalty. Talk about homers! It was hilarious.

Say what you want about the knee to the head as to how hard it looked, but ARD had to come out of the game, she was clearly shaken up.

In fairness to them, they work for the school. Not that they were correct, but it was entertaining to hear them talk of a 5'2" player being a brute. Mauermann's actions were clearly worthy of a penalty, but I have seen much worse.

It's ok for them to say the Kato player deserved a penalty and not get fired for being honest. The fact they could not acknowledge the infraction at all was awful announcing by anyone's standard. Posick calls an honest game.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2016-2017

Nobody asks because they know the answer will be empty.

Other college sports teams acknowledge injuries all the time. Just say player X has a leg injury and she's out 2-4 weeks. Fine by me. UW football prints a report. The fact that the UW star player and a PK candidate had to leave a game after getting a knee to the head is newsworthy, like it or not. These games and teams aren't in a vacuum.

As far as addressing the hit in the presser, he can tell us UW's side to the story and if he's contacted the League office to get further punishment on it. That's what I would have asked.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2016-2017

Ha! Keyes got the gate for a whole game. ARD is day to day per Milewski. Per Milewski, MJ didn't send another goalie out for the rest of the game so they wouldn't kill that goalie's potential of redshirting. This tells me ARD is playing every game this year. Why else wouldn't you send out #2 goalie and RS #3?

Now if we only knew Cogan's status......

I really felt the color guy thought the Keys hit was bad and wanted to say so. But he kept deciding to not contradict the play by play guy who was trying to downplay the Keys hit at the expense of the Mauermann.

I agree 100%. The color guy was wanting to say something, but just couldn't bring himself to say it.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2016-2017

I was at the game and it was interesting to watch the handshake line at the end of the game.

The handshake lines for the women's games are a joke. They just buzz through so fast they really don't even shake hands or look each other in the eye. Why even bother doing it, it's meaningless. In contrast I watched the UW men in the handshake line after a game this last weekend; meaningful handshakes, eye contact, enough time for a firmly gripped handshake.

Goalies get hit, the good ones more often. There is no place in the game for this as they are usually not ready for it and defenseless for the most part. Having said that ARD's antics in goal probably rub the opposition the wrong way. I have seen her dance to the music, high 5 kids behind the net, make a simple save look like it's the greatest save of all time and laugh with the referees after a save. She is very good and should avoid this type of behavior. It doesn't suit her and is not needed. Maybe she is just bored.

I'm sorry, but having a good time doing something you love (and engaging with fans) isn't something that should be discouraged.

If you're waving the puck in front of the face of the person who you just stopped that's one thing, but being goofy and showing some of your personality is another.

That's just her personality, and I doubt people who know her have a problem with it. What offends opponents is that she keeps so many of their best shots out of the net.

I think it gets very difficult for some of these WCHA teams having to play Wisconsin and Minnesota 4+ times every year. Their frustration and pride can boil over. That's why I think a primary job of coaches is to get the players to try as hard as they can through thick and thin as much as possible without losing their cool. I don't think it's easy.

But, retaliation should be kept out of the women's game as much as possible. I have seen games when I get worried about the safety of Gopher players when their opponent is losing control of themselves, and I would imagine the same thing can happen to the Badgers. I am glad Keys got a suspension.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2016-2017

The gap is shrinking and that is only good for the WCHA. Blow outs are few and far between and we are actually seeing entertaining hockey between teams 1 and 8. I can understand how Gopher and Badger fans are struggling with this but it is only a symptom of how much better women's hockey has become. The talent pool is growing and some very, very good players are looking at other teams a lot more seriously now. Next year promises to be even more difficult for the perennial division leaders. Love it!

What makes you think that these fans wouldn't want more competitive hockey? It's boring as all get out to watch a 10-0 game where one team takes 60+ shots.

Have you read some of the comments on the forum? There are some frustrated fans out there, toying with the lines, more scoring needed, power play is not working, needs more work, etc... never really giving any thought or consideration that the opponent might be better now! Just saying.
