Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Tuned in for parts of the game Friday night and they were talking about losing Sylvester. What happened there? Was she lost for the rest of the weekend?

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Slid into the boards and appeared to hit her head. Penalty on the play.

Sylvester was hurt early in the first period in the game Friday night. She did not play the rest of the weekend. The Badgers did a great job in taking 4 out of 6 points on the weekend. They were missing 4 impact forwards in Saturdays game and 3 on Friday. I thought the game Saturday was especially satisfying in that the lines were all makeshift and the team really played well. Nurse was great Friday and Ammerman lead the way Saturday. I thought that Harding and Wellhausen did a great job playing on a line with Ammerman and I felt that MacKibbon was strong on another line with Nurse as well... A great team win when missing a lot of fire power!

Any updates on Sylvester?

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Hopefully nothing serious. Fortunately, this is an off-week before a rare Thursday-Friday series next week.

With Bemidji taking 5 out of 6 points at Minnesota, it gets Wisconsin right back into the WCHA race. Frankly, after walking out of LaBahn after the Minnesota series a few weeks ago, I thought the Gophers were going to run away with it by semester break.

The definitely deserve to be # 1 this week. It should be an exciting season in the WCHA this year.

depending how you look at it:
the Badgers are either 1 point up on the Gophers since, using the average points per series, the Gophers would win one and tie one and fail to win the SO for 4 points.
or, having 2 games in hand and controlling your own destiny is always a good thing, if they won both games they'd be 1 point ahead.

Bottom line, it is far from over.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

There is rarely, if ever, information given on injuries, but there's especially no incentive to do so with a bye week. They'll be mum on her til forced to answer a question about her viability just before the next series.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

From Coach Johnson's press conference:

"Friday becomes a little bit more challenging because you play in the afternoon, so some of the kids are coming right from class into the locker room, warming up, putting their gear on and practicing. But those are the challenges that you face, and you know, you talk about them, you try to address them and obviously the start in both games will be key for us."

I now realize that men's basketball is playing the rare Friday night game so that's why they are bumped. Is there not enough staff to run those games concurrently? I know parking would be a hassle (and not free), but I would rather deal with parking issues vs. trying to make a 3:00 game.

The other factor is that most WCHA women's teams tend to try play an earlier game on getaway day so that team that is traveling doesn't have to ride the bus all night or stay over an extra night. Of course, normally that is on a Saturday or Sunday so it doesn't prevent fans from attending, so you may be right that BB is the deciding factor in this case.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

It's early on Friday because of the basketball game. I'm glad they don't try to do them at the same time, as I have tickets to both games. They're not going to have a women's hockey game and basketball game at the exact same time, but they can have everything closer together (time-wise) than when women's hockey was at the Kohl Center.

What I want to know is why they can't play Saturday night instead of Thursday night. I can't think of any reason on UW's end that would prevent that.

Football. UM had Fri/Sun series in Madison several times due to a FB game.

It isn't the staffing levels. In order to get the permits for LaBahn, the university had to promise the city that they wouldn't schedule events at Kohl and LaBahn simultaneously. I think that they can't schedule at either place during a football game, too. So when a whole bunch of teams are playing in Madison the same weekend, the schedule gets stretched out.

They've had many men's hockey games following 2:30 football games. It should be even easier to do a women's game after a football game. Fri/Sun is much better than Thu/Fri, I would think. (Maybe there's some weird law that says women's hockey can't start at 8:00.)

All I can think of is the potential was there for the UW-Neb football game to be a night game, so they couldn't schedule the women's hockey and fb at the same time, which we all agree is a ridiculous reason, but I could see them saying they would not have enough staff to do both. At any rate, the Friday game is not an attendable time for 50% of the "regular" attendees. Why not just make Kato stay in Madison until Sunday and play @ 1? Being in Madison for 4 days sure beats the crap out of being in Mankato. I'm sure the Kato gals would love the idea.

Injuries...I also wonder what Rolfes' status is. She is my daughter's favorite player.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2014-2015

Men's basketball plays at noon on Sunday, and women's basketball plays at 4.
