Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

I'm trying to decipher what it means that Walters came in for the closing minutes. It could be that they know that Rigsby is just about back, and once she is, then Walters won't get any shot to play. The alternative is that Rigsby won't be back for a bit, and they want Walters to be prepared in case she is forced into a game as the backup. Usually, teams are reluctant to put in a backup for a few minutes when it costs the starter a shutout, so it is seldom just for the heck of it.

There was no video, but I was both listening to the Bemidji streamed audio and following along on the UW 'live chat', and there was no indication on either that Desbiens had had any sort of problem, or was 'run into' etc. The guy running the chat was asked specifically (of course) and said no apparent problem at all, just Walters getting some playing time.

("Playing time" in a manner of speaking: in her almost ten minutes, Bemidji didn't mange to register a shot on net.)

Yes, I think the mystery is more what it means regarding Rigsby than Desbiens.

It seems that how it often goes; a team attempts to give a backup some work, and she winds up watching from the crease instead of the bench.

It happened to Walters last year, too. Six minutes against Lindenwood, zero shots.

She has yet to record a save in a 'real' game (she pitched a shutout in an exhibition against the 'Minnesota Whitecaps' last year.)

Well, she's no Shyler Sletta.

Rigsby indeed back in net for today's game. With her dressing last week against North Dakota, her return seemed inevitable sooner than later. With that said, Desbiens has been fantastic and bodes very well for the future (if not again this year at some point).

Wisconsin winning 2-0 after two. Great special teams play so far with Josephs with a power play goal and Ammerman with a short-handed goal.

You're comparing a game that started during a work day to ones played on a Saturday and on a Sunday. Today's game was basically scheduled to fail.

That's a good point I hadn't thought about - the Friday start. Thanks

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

With the 3-1 win over Bemidji State, Alex Rigsby earns her 92nd win which breaks Jessie Vetter's school record. Congratulations to Alex and hopefully she'll be able to pad that record with several more wins over the rest of the season.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

The fact that Ribsgy started yesterday is all the more puzzling as to why she didn't start Friday. That one extra day of rest could not have mattered.

Overall excellent results and I'm looking forward to da dawgs coming to Mad City.

Considering how well ARD has played, I wonder if Johnson is thinking of sticking with a Friday/Saturday rotation, playing both goalies, at least for the next few weeks.

I think ARD and Rigsby are very close talentwise, but you'd have to give the nod to the Sr. This is her time to shine. ARD will start the next the next 3 years unless MJ brings in someone even better, which is hard to imagine.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Wisconsin has picked up a commitment from Hill-Murray sophomore defenseman Mekenzie Steffen.

Very good player who has a huge upside. Transferred from Benilde-St. Margaret's to Hill-Murray prior to the start of this season. As I understand it, the family decided to move to a location closer to a new place of employment, so Miss Steffen did not have to sit out a year (or play JV). She'll face her old team for the first time on Saturday in what will be a clash between #7 and #3.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Welcome to the lady dawgs, heading south for the warmth to start off the final 8 game stretch. Hopefully both games are well attended and well officiated.

I expect Rigsby to go both games.
