Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

With the way Friday night went, I tend to think Johnson outcoached Idalsky. UND has some players this year, but Johnson has the women's game figured out IMO.

There's that, plus having a really good goaltender doesn't hurt either! ;)

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Is it just me or does Johnson just not give out any info at all, whether it's recruiting or injuries.....I find it kind of irritating.

I've only spoken with him directly a few times now, but yes, I've gotten the impression that coach is not the most forthcoming of people.

But in terms of the signees, I think this is a bit of a perfect storm of the team having been on two long road trips in a row, right before the holiday, so the Athletic Comm folks have been busy. From their side, they're trying to get quotes and info from high schoolers the week before they head into a school break - again, not easy. I have not gotten the impression that this has anything to do with being cagey and everything to do with the team being on the road the the signees being busy high-schoolers.

Rigsby was so disappointed to not make the Olympic pool and said she's playing with a chip on her shoulder, but we Badger fans couldn't be happier to have her with the team this year. Rigsby will get her shot nationally, but this time around she's have been third on the depth chart and spent a lot of time riding the pine. It's for her own good (and growth) and great for the Badgers that she was left off and is able to captain this team this season. It would be a completely different season with her gone.

I agree that she would have kinda been wasting her time on the Olympic team as a back-up, though you never know if you'll get the chance again, you have to go for it.

Awesome to see the gals get a solid win Saturday, at least statistically anyway. I was a little worried the sue would would out-play them again and be p/o'ed about getting stoned Friday. Really great "sweep" on the road.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

Anybody have any idea when UW will make an official announcement on the 2014 class of recruits? I noticed on another thread that Minnesota made their announcement today. Just wondering....

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

I really like this group of 6 recruits that Wisconsin is bringing in next fall! They all play at a very high level and come from winning backgrounds whether on their club/school teams or with their U-18/National teams! I think this class might be the strongest of all the incoming 2014 classes in D-1. If not then definitely in the top 2-3!!

Needless to say, another huge road series with UMD this weekend. Golden opportunity to leap-frog North Dakota and back into 2nd place in the league and stay within reasonable distance of the Gophers.

I agree with others that the incoming class next year looks to be one of the better ones in recent program history. Obviously, that is helped with Pankowski coming in a year later than expected.

Well, today was not a good day for Badger hockey (though it is always a great day for hockey). 1/6 points between the two teams.

Re: Wisconsin Badgers 2013-2014 Season

At least the women rallied and snagged one point in what had to be a more entertaining game than the Badger men. Goals have been hard to come by in Duluth recently. Hopefully, they can solve Black tomorrow night.

Hey, I was in attendance at the men's game, and it was indeed VERY entertaining! Gophers win the FIRST EVER Big Ten Conference hockey game, against the Badgers no less, 4-1! :D

If she get's cut on the last round, can she enroll for the 2nd semester or is it too late? She probably could/should enroll just in case. The odds are against her, are they not? Or is she just that awesome?

Too bad they didn't win last night, they did outshoot them. Really bummed they didn't score in the shootout.

The dilemma for those that get cut is that playing one semester costs the full season of eligibility, so most elect to wait and get a full season in the future.

Yeah, I'm sure you were entertained. I was stuck watching it on ESPNU with possibly the worst announcing crew I've ever heard.

With her being announced publically in next year's class, it seems like she's waiting regardless of whether she makes the final Olympic roster or not. With that said, I would think it would be tempting to join this team for the second semester and the shot at making a run in the NCAAs. Otherwise, won't she be back in the same situation in 4 years prior to her senior year?

That broadcast demonstrated that the mute button is one of mankind's fifteen greatest inventions.

If she has survived until the final cut this time, the odds are good that she will make the Olympic roster in another four years. So that would mean that she would be six years out of high school before she completed her eligibility. Others have been in the same position, like Brianne Jenner of Cornell and Marie-Philip Poulin of BU are this time, where her college career is twice interrupted by the Olympics.

If the unconfirmed rumors that Buesser has been cut turn out to be true it probably doesn't matter; that would get the team down to 12 forwards on the roster.

What are the rules on injury replacements on the Olympics rosters? I would assume that, if someone gets hurt in mid-January you could name a replacement but what about if it happens during the tourney?

If it happens during the tournament, then that team is out of luck, if I'm remembering the discussion from "Miracle" correctly. That's why teams carry a third goaltender even though they usually don't need one.
