Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Someone has a good imagination.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/capitalweather">@capitalweather</a> can you see Jefferson's face in the ice? (Rock Creek this am, on Taft Bridge) Happy Presidents' Day! <a href="https://t.co/c6xh5bBgBA">pic.twitter.com/c6xh5bBgBA</a></p>— Jenn W (@jenn_wurz) <a href="https://twitter.com/jenn_wurz/status/699280331514474497">February 15, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Looks more like Mozart.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Some of these days, I'm thinking I need to carry a second jacket with me when I travel back and forth to/from work.

On Monday, when I left the house, it was in low 30s and a brisk wind was blowing, you could see your breath quite easily. But in the afternoon it was in the 50s and the jacket I wore in the morning was way too warm.

Today, when I left the house, it was in the 50s, and my jacket was too warm, but I knew the weather was supposed to change. By the time I was walking from the train station to work, the temperature was in the low 40s and a brisk wind was blowing and I was glad to have the warmer one with me. It's supposed to get even colder as the day wears on.

10 below in Houghton this morning. March can get depressing.

It was 8 above down here when I woke up this morning. While that's not cold in the traditional sense, it's colder than much of February was this year.

When we lived in the mountains of Wyoming, the joke was, "we have four seasons here, just like anyplace else does. We merely have different names for them here.
-- almost winter
-- winter
-- still winter
-- the 4[SUP]th[/SUP] of July."

Being at the western edge of the time zone, summers were amazing, it would stay light until 9:30, and rarely got very hot, nor very humid. Of course, in winter you wouldn't see sunrise until after 8 AM...

Spring was actually worse for traveling than winter, when the snow melted, all the dirt roads turned to mud, and there were more dirt roads than paved roads where we lived. The county would wait until the thaw was done and then send out road graders to try to flatten the ruts. If you did not have enough clearance, you'd have to straddle the rut or else get stuck, because the ruts were made by 4-wheel drive with high clearance.

It snowed here last night. Quite a bit of volatility in the local weather lately....

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Monday morning, hard frost, scraping ice off the car window.

Wednesday afternoon, no jacket needed, shirtsleeve weather.

Prediction is it may hit 80 here today.

We had snow on the ground last week.

Al Gore broke the weather.

yesterday, we opened the sliding glass door and several windows to warm the house up. It was 65 inside, mid-70's outside.

We're getting 65 and sunny tomorrow. It's not a record, those are in the 70s for this time of year, but I still had to take the day off work so I could enjoy it. It's good to have 28 days/year to burn.

77 in Boston yesterday broke a record. Another one went down when it was that warm so early in the year.

I think all of my neighbors must have left their heat on the "South Florida" setting, because I had to open every window to cool off my apartment mid-afternoon yesterday.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

77.9 yesterday, 68 in the rain today. Never really had a winter. After last yr anything less than a foot was no big deal. Now my crocuses are out. Yikes!

My son can see the grass in Bemidji (though right now he's in Bowling Green, OH).

In addition to my Huskies, I'm rooting for the Brrrmidjis in the first round. Unfortunately, looking like a very warm weekend for the snow schools.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

I gassed up my snowblower in December and I still haven't had to refill the tank. The remainder's going into my car, I think.

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Yeah,I still have half a tank in the blower. Going to be a PITA to run it dry.

I just stabilize the gas with some Seafoam and use it in the mower

Re: Winter 2015 - boom or snow job?

Had cold symptoms the last few days, but realized I don't have a cold. This is the hay fever attack I normally get in mid-April. Apparently, the pollen producers didn't get the memo it's still March.

There are berries on some trees already. That's extremely early for MN.
