And that's assuming a symmetric distribution - wouldn't surprise me if more than half of people were below average.Half of all people are below average.

The problem with the Genius Theory is the guy who propounds it always think his group is the one contributing the geniuses, because the rest of us are writing them checks to do the stuff we can't be bothered with.
Truth is, we're all good at one or two things and astoundingly awful at everything else.

I think that's only true if "laying on couch drinking beer" or "being a drain on society" count towards the one-two good things that a person can do.
Maybe it's working in the courts, but I'm constantly amazed how some of these people survived childhood, let alone reached full-fledged adulthood, got married, and have kids.
And average isn't exactly stellar.
