Why is WCHA always winning NCAA.

Re: Why is WCHA always winning NCAA.

Reminds me of my college course "How to Lie with Statistics". Just in the last few years I've been reading lots of stories of how there is no discernible difference in the success of kids that go to Ivies versus good State schools and one writer made the point that State school kids in Honors programs do better than kids with Ivy programs. Regardless, IMO the only thing that matters is that a student is successful and is not saddled with too much debt. I think good students and successful people will do well no matter where they go to school.

Here is a thought.......

.......You get out of school what you put into it, no matter which institution you attend.......

.........Having said that, have one kid at an Ivy and another at a Prime Time Big School, and there is a distinct difference....Those with a similar work ethic at an Ivy are likely to get more out of that effort, than those with a similar ethic at some other schools.....My learnings from our D are, that the approach to learning at an Ivy tends to be much more thought provoking and out of the box driven.....Those that can handle this out of the Box stuff and thrive in it will have a greater chance at success in life, as they come out of it with a distinct skill set.......Does not mean you cannot have it if you do not attend an Ivy....On the other side of the coin, there are some at an Ivy that take the easy way out, no different than any other institution......

Re: Why is WCHA always winning NCAA.

Given that the primary role of college is to prepare one for the job market I would argue that starting salaries for graduates are a pretty good indicator and I believe the Ivies have a pretty strong lead there. It seems pretty clear that employers value a Harvard MBA much higher than they value a North Dakota MBA. That said talented and driven people can succeed with any educational background see Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, etc

I agree with you 100%. Graduate degrees from Ivies and other elite schools translate to greater salaries. I think the evidence is clear that a graduate degree from an Ivy is worth much more than from other schools. I was just stating that there have been a number of articles recently about the value of an undergraduate degree from some of the elite schools might be overrated. See this article for an example of what I was awkwardly trying to say. http://www.startribune.com/opinion/commentaries/146482775.html

The "How to Lie with Statistics" was a great course that taught students to look at statistics with a very critical eye. It wasn't about teaching us how to lie.

Suspect you missed the sarcasm. I forgot the :D. We actually agree on several (but not all) points in this debate.

Sorry I missed the sarcasm. If you agreed with everything I said then I would suspect I didn't say it right. :D
