I am curious to learn why college hockey fans are so passionate about the game? I love the game of hockey, and have found my passion following the college game. For me attending a college game is far more enjoyable than attending a pro game. There is something about experiencing a college hockey game in an arena full of rabid fans that totally excites me, no matter who is playing. This is not to say that other sports' fans aren't just as passionate, but the speed of the game and the skills required to play it at a high level, combined with the atmosphere of a big game in a packed house make it a truly great experience. I love the bands, the enthusiastic students, the alumni who bring their kids, and the intensity of the players night in and night out.
What is it about the game that you love? Are you passionate about just one team? What attracted you to the game in the first place? I'd love to hear your story.
I also like that in college hockey you see schools that you wouldn't normally see in other sports. Whether your talking about national champions like North Dakota, RPI, Union, Michigain Tech and Lake Superior State or just obscure schools like Alabama-Huntsville, Merrimack, RIT or Quinnipiac, you're getting to see schools who play at the top level of the sport not because they have big enrollments or huge nationwide fan bases, but just because they have have passion for the game and always have. You don't see that in college football or basketball, at least not to the same extent.
The Big 14 destroyed everything good about western college hockey.
Please, enlighten me, idiot.
Interesting perspective. What did Alvarez have to do with Big 14 hockey?
You do realize that UMN didn't want B1G hockey, but they had no choice. If they didn't join, they would have to withdraw from the other B1G sports, like football and basketball...Big 14 hockey would have happened with or without Alvarez. Everyone knew there was money in BTN, that's why they founded the network. I'm not a big BA fan or a hater, but I don't think he's overwhelmingly responsible for Big 14 hockey. All of the school presidents and ADs are equally responsible, none of them had the intestinal fortitude to stand up and protect their hockey program, they were all intoxicated by dollars.
Now go play in traffic.
