Who's Coming to Erie?

Re: Who's Coming to Erie?

Well, keep in mind....you get what you pay for. This is Erie, after all. I stayed at the Avalon about 12 years ago and it wasn't very nice then.
OK, you've got my attention. I can still cancel without penalty; tell me the rest of story.

Upfront, let me say that I did do a little poking around before booking, and found some comments that were consistent with MICZamboni's report. Room quality not the nicest in the past, but upgraded considerably in recent years.

On the other hand, if you're hinting that the hotel is "not a family atmosphere" or that the walk to the arena is dicey, then I'd appreciate candid comments detailing your views.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Who's Coming to Erie?

Pgb, sorry to hear what happened to you with those tickets.
Appreciate that. I'm pretty confident I'll be able to find a reasonable solution. I'm sorry the host team had to lose to create a buyers' market. But for me, it turned what might have been a major issue into a minor problem.

Hope to see you there. Even though our team will not be there, we will still be wearing our Ohio State hockey sweaters. Can't wait to get there Friday!
Cool. We will also wear the colors and hope to connect.

You will be fine pgb. It is a nice place and you don't have to worry about the area.

Re: Who's Coming to Erie?

Does anyone have information on broadcast of games (either TV or live streaming)???

I heard Image Sports, from Erie, will be broadcasting the game and my guess is that if someone from the NCAA doesn't announce, they will probably get either Dave Leisering to announce. He does a nice a job on Mercyhurst games. How you get the stream, I don't know but it has to be better than the BU people who did the BU/MC game on saturday. That was just tragic. Seriously, learn the names before you broadcast. I don't want to hear they are just college kids blah, blah, blah. OK, I am done venting.
Image Sports does the Erie Otters games and does a standup job.
God I wish I were in town this coming weekend. My chance to drive the zamboni for a Frozen Four and I can't even be there. UGH!!! The guy driving is an occasional poster here on the boards.

Pgb, I will have on Ohio State hockey sweaters, but I think Mrs 86 talked about wearing her Pittsburgh Penguins sweaters. Mrs 86 is a huge Pens fan and she figured since she will be in western PA, that will be ok. As for the host team losing, that was kind of a shame because I wanted to see some good crowds, and I am not going to lie, I wanted to see Meghan Agosta play. I am taking my SI from a few weeks ago to see if she is there and will sign it for my nephew. He loves autographs and Meghan appeared in the 'Faces In The Crowd' section. I am sure any of you who have a subscription saw that. Anyway, hopefully some folks will still come out, but as you alluded to Pgb, it will help your situation work out, which isn't a bad thing. Hey, I have actually written down all the "names" of the persons who indicated they will be there, so if you see a couple wearing OSU and Pittsburgh Pens stuff, please stop us and say hello!

LakerFan, I will see if I can make my way to the press area to say hello to you!

Re: Who's Coming to Erie?

I've got my travel and hotel booked and will be at all three games. Like pgb I'll be staying at The Avalon for cost and convenience. I will be wearing a BU jersey at the games, most likely my white Seman #10, but as BU will be the road team for the semifinal I may wear my red Armstrong #21.

Re: Who's Coming to Erie?

According to an article in this mornings Erie Times News, there are 1500 tickets still available. This is after accounting for the 200 seats per participating schools and what the NCAA wants. My guess is that many of the local/regional hockey fans purchased their tickets before the quarterfinals, so tickets should be available day of. If I hear anything else, I will mention it here.

Re: Who's Coming to Erie?

Fredonia, NY which is only about a 45 minute ride from Erie seems to be home to at least 20 wineries and/or vineyards according to various websites. Any suggestions on which to frequent, say on Saturday?

Applications for designated driver are being accepted as well. ;)

As of Wednesday 3/16, Ticketmaster began selling individual session tickets as well as the tournament package. Suprisingly nice seats were available in Section 7. (Center Ice) So whether you're hoping to attend Friday, Sunday or both, be sure to come to the tournament. Gaining admission shouldn't be a problem. While I'm loathe to recommend Ticketmaster, they do provide a means to have tickets in hand before traveling.

Fortunately Ticketmaster won't be getting my business this time. I was indeed able to complete a deal with a Mercyhurst fan.

Must say I'm very curious as to how many other "buyers" received last Saturday's e-mail cancelling their tickets. I suppose the number wasn't all that large. The time period involving these "sales" was less than two days. But I sincerely hope that all of those affected found tickets on the secondary market so that Ticketmaster didn't further profit from any of us.

Re: Who's Coming to Erie?

On the off chance that anyone in Erie is still checking this - Any advice for two tickets today?

We're playing hooky and will get there about 4pm to find tickets. Ticketmaster still had decent seats last night so the box office is our backup, but am thinking to find all session passes outside the arena. Sound like a reasonable plan?

Re: Who's Coming to Erie?

Yes, it's a reasonable plan. If you're comfortable with the street market, that is where the best values will be found. In the very unlikely event that you strike out on the street, the box office should have the same seats as Ticketmaster, or at least very comparable, depending on the set-up. Plus, you'd avoid most of the fees. You'd probably be stuck with the $1.00 "facility fee" either way, but that should be it.

As always, you should find out from someone local if there are any idiosyncratic rules for reselling tickets, such as no resales within a certain number of feet of the arena. Usually fans cope with such rules by finding a "high traffic" spot just beyond the limit. If there is such a spot, could someone from Erie chime in?

Enjoy the games!
