Who will be crowned the Hobey Baker award??

Re: Who will be crowned the Hobey Baker award??

Where did you learn that Kristo was drunk when frostbite incident occurred? Or are you just assuming?

He wasn't drunk. Max Nicastro roofied the wrong person's drink and next thing you know Max is unable to score with the Grand Forks chicks and Kristo is wondering why his toe is black.

I heard from a member of an opposing team (so take this with a grain of salt) that he was caught canoodling with another man's girlfriend and was forced to jump out a window sans footwear. And yes, there was alcohol involved. I wouldn't have mentioned this rumor in the aftermath of the incident, but it makes for a good story, so I thought it wouldn't hurt to share it now.

Re: Who will be crowned the Hobey Baker award??

I think stats-wise the three are pretty even. Last weekend, neither of the three did themselves many favors with Hartzell allowing 3 against Canisius, Leblanc not appearing in the scoresheet, and Gaudreau being eliminated. Therefore, I think character and whatever wins out and Leblanc, being conference player AND student athlete of the year, gets the nod. Tough seeing Hartzell get it being a goaltender (not saying it's fair) and Gaudreau is a sophomore so he'll have at least one more year to win it.

That said, I'm probably wrong.

Re: Who will be crowned the Hobey Baker award??

Last night on the uscho show, they had the writer who makes up the hobey baker blogs. He admitted that hobey loves goals but that the hobey is much different this year. The end of the show they asked him to say two words as to the hobey baker and he said Drew Leblanc. What a different image that would be if he were to win it. Not much of a goal scorer whatsoever, mainly an assist specialist. I suppose him leading the team to their first conference championship and frozen four probably helps;)

Does anybody know where to find a video of Kristos tangent about the penalty call? I have checked you tube with no results. I never saw it and am interested in seeing it.

It's hardly the greatest act of horribleness ever like some Gopher fans want to make it out to be. I'm still puzzled why they were more upset by Kristo's exit from the game than they were by the flying elbow he tried to deliver to Ben Marshall.

I love it!

What a complete tool Kristo is, that is the definition of both CFB and d-bag.

Re: Who will be crowned the Hobey Baker award??

Eric Hartzell is the main reason Quinnipiac is in Pittsburgh next week. Yeah, he lost to a hot Brown team in the ECAC semi's and had a shaky start against Canisius, but he was there for the team all season long. They don't go 21 games without a loss without him, they don't go #1 in the pairwise without him, and they don't win the east regional without him. He may not have the off-ice credentials of LeBlanc, and that's will likely hurt him with the voters.

I wonder what he said when he stormed back to the bench. My guess: "That's my puck that I brought from home, now give it back, you can't use it!"

Voting's done. These are just the top 3.

I think LeBlanc wins. All 3 are deserving...

Really? I actually Haven't learned how they do the voting. They must do a vote at the end of the season. And then that's it. I thought they did a vote for the 10 then Vote for the top three.

The voting's done in the week leading up to the NCAA tournament. Everything that happened from Friday through Sunday has no impact on the vote.

ETA: Here's a high-level of the Hobey process.

Will the award be used as a crown? Or is the booby prize (call it, say, Dopey Baker) to be "crowned" (informal, act of violence) the award? Has anyone ever had the distinction of being the symbolic trophy, or is anthropomorphization not the intent here? Is it the intention of the committee to, in addition to bestowing upon the winner the Hobey Baker award, divinely lend the honored the very personification of the award? May we both personify AND anthropomorphize ... or do these acts conflict?

I wasn't going to be the one to mention it, but I think I would rather not win the award if winning meant that I would actually become the award.

I've always believed it included the first weekend of the NCAAs and then the votes were made.
