Re: Who advances to the Frozen Four?

the seeds hold true for me....Nothing against Clarkson but I'd like to see Quinni finish strong....

Re: Who advances to the Frozen Four?

I predicted back in November in another poll BC would go undefeated until the semi-final, I'm hoping I'm wrong so that this year’s undefeated team can go up against the only school to have completed the feat. All those Badger Bandwagon jumpers who waited until they won the WCHA conference title to start attending games are going to be disappointed.

If they can't sell the matchup of the team trying to go undefeated against the team that did, and get a great crowd, they never will.

Umm..what? I think they sold out nine games prior to the clinching the WCHA title. Plus, the last four games at LaBahn against Mankato outdrew the WCHA tournament final against Minnesota..in Ridder Arena.

Re: Who advances to the Frozen Four?

Best line in the article, made me chuckle:

"If Mercyhurst scores a goal in this game it'll be because Desbiens was turned around drinking her water bottle at the time."

LOL!

Re: Who advances to the Frozen Four?

A 7 seed beating a 3 seed would be surprising, but hardly historic. The only comparable upset to HC would have to involve a team that only made the tournament because of a conference tourney win. In other words, the only way you could have something similar in Womens this year would be to have Mercyhurst win. (The Gopher Men were also the #2 overall seed that year, so be careful what you wish for......)

BC as the 8 over the 3 in 2007 was pretty unexpected. 9 years ago yesterday!

Right or wrong, the committee had Princeton ranked sixth. Nine years ago, #2, #3, and #4 all lost in the quarters (and #3 lost to #8).

The funny thing is that Holy Cross didn't make the tournament only because they won the Atlantic Hockey conference championship. Had they lost the championship game to Bentley, it would have turned Bentley into a TUC, which would have given Holy Cross a huge boost in the Pairwise given its 4-1-0 record against Bentley and paucity of other games vs. TUCs, and flipped a bunch of comparisons. Unless the NCAA was prepared to publicly throw PWR out the window, Holy Cross would have been in as an at large team. Yes, this shows once again how badly constructed the Pairwise is, but Holy Cross was close enough to being an at large team that the stupid math would have done them a huge favor.

What's even more amazing about that second clip...apart from being a gorgeous goal...is that Thunstrom's pass hit the defender's stick and Stack was still able to corral it with ease and then to quickly make the cross crease pass back to Thunstrom...gorgeous...and they made it look easy.

Re: Who advances to the Frozen Four?

Not sure which thread this belongs in, but two nice articles about Kendall Coyne from around the internet:

http://alongtheboards.com/2016/03/kendall-coyne-changed-ncaa-womens-hockey-landscape/ -- lots of historical perspective on the landscape at the time Coyne was first coming to college versus now

http://www.northeastern.edu/news/2016/03/how-a-hockey-star-was-born/ -- Coyne at Northeastern, from all angles: sporting, social, academic. I was particularly impressed by this part and how well it speaks of her as a person:
Coyne struggled to fit in during her first year at Northeastern, Flint said, a result of being such a highly touted player. Many of the veteran players were not sure how to treat the future star of the program, leaving Coyne somewhat alienated.

“After her freshman year she told me she didn’t want anyone to ever feel that again,” Flint said. “So she has really worked to create a culture in which everyone treats everyone the right way and is respectful to each other.”

And Coyne has become a go-to for support on and off the ice for her teammates, according to assistant captain and junior goaltender Sarah Foss. “She has done an unbelievable job to make sure everyone feels included and we are a unit,” Foss said. “The chemistry this year has never been better and I attribute a lot of that to her.”

I agree that MU beating UW would be a bigger upset by far than PU over UM, I was just taking the opportunity to needle the rodent fans a little. I really can't help myself. Speaking of needling, the woeful UW men's team tried oh so hard to lose another game last night but were unsuccessful. :)

In looking at the poll, it's very interesting that 6 people think BC will lose, vs 1 for UM. I guess all those people voting BC #1 forever in the poster's poll don't want to stand up for their #1 when it counts.

Maybe they are just trying to needle YOU! Note: I voted 1-4 making it, no upsets so it ain't me babe
