What was the attendance at the Regionals? West Regional was low

Re: What was the attendance at the Regionals? West Regional was low

Green Bay WI (Host: Michigan Tech)
St Louis MO (Host: CCHA)
Bridgeport CT (Host: Yale and Fairfield)
Manchester NH (Host: UNH)
They should be fine except for St. Louis, which will maybe have 1500 people there.

Speaking in Hypotheticals, if a CCHA team was #1 overall? Would they automaticly be placed in St Louis since their league is the host? We all know Tech wont be attending their regional on the ice. Yale and UNH are in position to host their regionals as well next season.

Next year:
St Louis: 19250
Green Bay: 10500

Manchester: 10019

Will the St Louis regional even hit 20% capacity?

I'd put the over/under for the St. Louis regional attendance at 10% of capacity.

I think that's the basketball capacity for Green Bay - hockey capacity is more like 8,000 and change.

Re: What was the attendance at the Regionals? West Regional was low

Manchester did real well in 2008 as I recall, especially since home-town fave UNH was there for the first day but not for the second.

The Verizon Wireless Arena is a nice, relatively new building with a capacity of 10,000+. A rotation of Worcester-Providence-Manchester makes sense to me for the Northeast.

Portland would be good, if they had a bigger/newer building.

Portland's biggest problem is the fact that they do not have luxury boxes. The NCAA wont even consider them until they add those boxes. Also, locker rooms are still in the 1970s size range...the Pirates locker room is TINY, the visitor's locker room is even smaller and the "extra" locker rooms, well when I played there in youth hockey, once one player was geared up, you had to get up to make room for the next person to get geared up.

Press Boxes arent more than 12 seats long, and there is one...possibly two.

When UMaine plays there once a season, they always sell out and its always against horrible teams. I paid 20 something dollars to watch Maine tie Mercyhurst a few years ago. It'd be great if they played UNH, BC, BU, NMU (hey, I can dream NMU vs Maine *drool*...it already happend once in the early 90s in Portland).
Portland would be a great host city if the **** city/county/state would realize their arena is a piece of s*** and build a new one

They should probably just find a small arena in the St. Louis area to host that holds ~2,000 or so. Would be a much better atmosphere, that's for sure. :p

For the 2 games last year, they did 6883 and 7883. For the UNH/Miami game they did a whopping 9015, but when UNH lost attendance dropped: BC/Miami "only" did 7007.

Manchester appears solid.

Just let the fan(s) sit in the penalty box.

Re: What was the attendance at the Regionals? West Regional was low

Speaking with the Finance guy from the VWA, I think Manchester has regionals every other year. Living in the area, I'm good with it, but I've heard complaints about hotels and reserved rooms and staying near the airport...

I'll try to remember to post this again next year, but if you're planning on going to the Manchester regional, there are oh maybe 8 hotels within walking distance of the arena - and a great bar across the street called Keith Murphy's.

I know, 8 was an exaggeration. There's 4. I think that's enough rooms for four teams, four bands, and four sets of fans. :D

I've been to most HEA arenas, a few pro, semi-pro, and OOC arenas, and of course your standard little-kid hockey rinks. Verizon is my favorite. If we get Bemidji and Alaska and Denver and a Hockey East school, I don't expect attendance will be anything to write home about. If we get a few Hockey East schools, or some ECAC schools, I think we could get some decent noise going. Especially if NCAA will "allow" bands larger than 25 students. (I say "allow" because my husband counted quite few more than 25 students in the RIT band - awesome fan base there, but sad that UNH didn't bring more)

So, excited about regionals in Manchester off and on for years to come!

The magic 8-ball says "Doubtful". Several of the previous hosting arrangements have had conferences who were hosts, alongside one of their member schools (the ECAC hosts Albany with RPI, and the most recent Grand Rapids event was hosted by the CCHA and Western Michigan), but I think it is without precedent that a regional event has been hosted by a conference only (Frozen Fours are, of course, a different story).

My gut says St. Louis will not have a team that will be automatically placed there if they win.

Re: What was the attendance at the Regionals? West Regional was low

Who the hell in the CCHA offices decided to go full retard and bid as a conference for a city in the middle of nowhere, hockey wise? The Billikins folded 30+ years ago, you morons.

Without looking at a map, I assumed it was some sort of collective deal made with UNO years and years ago, but St. Louis is 440 miles from Omaha, obviously confusing KC and St. Louis.
