What To Do In Pittsburgh

I have no clue. Never been there, although I am anticipating the trip. Steelers, Pirates, Pens. Great. But where do you go to get a good steak? Or a Pittsburgh delicacy (is there one)? And, of course, a great beer in a great bar. Help!

Re: What To Do In Pittsburgh

If you want some culture you should visit the museums at Carnegie Mellon that are a little way outside downtown Pittsburgh.

it's not a cheese steak. There are different kinds but the signature one has italian cold cuts(i believe domestic capicola) , provolone, cloe slaw, french fries, tomatoes and a fried egg if you want (i may be missing something) but it's great and it's a must. Go to the one in the Strip District http://primantibros.com/02menu.html. The story behind the sandwich is that it's at a truck stop and the truckers years ago went in and didnt have the time and space to eat everything separately like we would so they asked them to put everything in the sandwich together and that they did and the rest as they say, is history.............i believe this is correct, right Mookie?

Also, for Italian in the same area, Lidia's Pittsburgh . You wont be disappointed

Re: What To Do In Pittsburgh

Quaker Steak has great wings and the Duquesne Incline is a cheap touristy thing to do during the day. Otherwise, Pittsburgh is blah. PNC is a great ballpark though

Re: What To Do In Pittsburgh

You are correct. Strip district is the warehouse area where the trains stops to unload their wares.

Re: What To Do In Pittsburgh

If you plan to tavel out of the city center to any of the burbs, allow more time than you might think. The terrain in the area means there aren't a lot of direct routes from point A to point B.

Highly recommend Primanti Bros.

Re: What To Do In Pittsburgh

asked this over in the cafe, but since there is activity over here as well.... any recommendations for a cigar bar in pittsburgh? preferably close to to point state park as i am staying down that way...

Re: What To Do In Pittsburgh

I've only been to Pittsburgh once, but I'll always remember this image: the airport shuttle bus is emerging from tunnel... it's raining... raindrops on bus window makes for beautiful, yet surreal image of Iron Triangle/confluence of three rivers at night.

This!

Not for nothing but I've been to Pittsburgh a few times and............its a boring town. Want some beer? Go to the place that sells beer. Want some booze? Go to the Liquor Store. Want to have fun? Don't stay downtown

Re: What To Do In Pittsburgh

I'll give u a list but east Carson Street will get you all the food beer and entertainment which includes Station Square, Mario's, Pittsburgh Steak and much more. Also Strip District has many ethic restaurants, Primanti's, try Roland's and others !!!! Pittsburgh is a great place with much more than I can put in here and Robinson an Cranberry although outside of city have many places to eat drink and be merry!!!!

Re: What To Do In Pittsburgh

as jeff is saying, there are neighborhoods in pittsburgh. pittsburgh itself doesn't really have a 'downtown' where people live - after work they all go home. you can experience polish food up near the bloomfield st bridge and off penn ave east of the strip district in an area called... polish hill. you can do the jew thing in squirrel hill. find bloomfield and you can take in the italian section (kinds what boston's north end looked like 15yrs ago before post-yuppie yuppies moved in and took away Trio's).

as mookie has said many times, pittsburgh is a driving city.

If you're from New England, you can seek out an odd variation of duckpin bowling. Glassport Lanes has rubber band duckpins. They have some open bowling.
