The person was real. The persona was created.
OK, so I have always been confused about "Fatima." There are multiple Fatimas (Fatimae?) right? On the one hand I hear the word mentioned in connection with the "black Madonnas" of the Gothic age (which I also don't understand, but anyway), but on the other hand there's a Fatimid Caliphate in Muslim history (although I don't remember where it is -- North Africa maybe? You could play as them in a Civ 3 DLC).
So what's the deal? Are they related -- do they relate to a place? Are they totally unrelated and it's just a coincidence?
Edit: OK, I used the google machine.
Fatima was Mohammed's daughter so it's a common Muslim name (and the dynasty traced their lineage from that daughter). One particularly cute Fatima got herself kidnapped by a proto-Trumpian Christian in the 16th century and was then, depending on your source, either Stockholm Syndromed -- Christian sources, or raped -- Muslim sources and in all honesty a lot more likely, given how the victorious Christian Spanish defined "the spoils" of the Reconquista. "Plus Ultra," baby.
There's a town in Portugal named after the unfortunate sex slave. In 1917, three school kids with a lot of free time and even more imagination had visions of Mary in the town, and Rome marketed the sh-t out of them, so now Mary has "Fatima" tacked on to her styling, which given Mary's spotty sexual history was maybe just a bit too on the nose even for the Holy See.
I see no connection with the black Madonnas so evidently I conflated that, but I did learn that it's the medieval Poles who served Mary "black, like my men."
Shrooms. They had a vision quest, as the Native Americans would say. There's a town in Portugal named after the unfortunate sex slave. In 1917, three school kids with a lot of free time and even more imagination had visions of Mary in the town...
The Miracle of Fatima. 10/13/1917.
We should continue this in the religion thread.

If there's a female character that's ever been created, and kids who saw that character in a game/show/etc. that they really enjoyed and have since grown into men, there's guaranteed to be some porn based upon her.
