What the Fark 2: That Was... Interesting.

Re: What the Fark 2: That Was... Interesting.

I'm speechless.

"Meyer, 26, was ... ambushed by more than 50 enemy fighters firing rocket propelled grenades, mortars, and machine guns. He made five trips into the ambush zone to rescue wounded Afghan forces and recover the bodies of fallen Marines.

Palin, 24, had a third-place finish on Dancing with the Stars and starred in her own Lifetime reality show, Bristol Palin: Life's a Tripp."

Too fing funny. Reminds me of a gem comparing Andre Agassi's and Brooke Shields's resumes back in the day.... "Agassi: 8-time Grand Slam winner, gold medalist, 3 Davis Cups, etc. Shields: showed us her butt in Blue Lagoon."

That's a pretty clever business strategy. Lots of companies will sign up just so nobody else can. When the .xxx extension was approved, a lot of the buyers were companies who just wanted to make sure that there was no [company name].xxx website.

The only person whose opinion I care about less than the book author is the article author.

The only person whose opinion I care about less than the article author is everyone else who will now offer an opinion on either the original piece or the article.

Except this is a great line:

If exasperation could give you orgasms, this book would leave me a deeply satisfied reader.

Re: What the Fark 2: That Was... Interesting.

The way it sounds like it's written, I'd put a dollar or two on that book being at least 50% fiction.

Is it offering an opinion to make fun of her/it? :p

It sounds like an extremely boring feminist "I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell".

If your definition of feminism is some sort of adolescent fantasy, maybe.

Crap, I'm violating my own rule. This is why everybody who comments on stuff like this is even more of a clueless a-hole than the self-absorbed a-hole who wrote it in the first place.

I did chuckle at the one comment some guy wrote: "So it's the book form of everyone who's ever lived in the Bay Area ever. Sexually free and totally useless." That's pretty good.

"Fifty Shades of Eat Pray Love" was pretty funny, too.

If you want to cheat on your spouse, cheat on your spouse. Don't write a whiney book about it. See also: raising your kids, worshiping (your delusion here), cutting your enemy's heart out with a spoon, going to war, having experience while at war, coming back from war. Oh, and writing a book. FOR FVCKS SAKE stop writing books about writing books.

I have a book about writing books.

Re: What the Fark 2: That Was... Interesting.

I see no way at all this could go horribly wrong. :p

Starbucks encourages baristas to discuss race relations with customers

While their intentions are noble and yes, it's an important discussion point... do people really want to talk about it when they get their coffee? If Starbucks is sharing its "values", how do they know each barista shares the same values? Don't enough people give half-assed opinions about things on which they are barely educated? This idea should wear Bad Idea Jeans.

I think it's bad enough when Trader Joe's cashiers are forced to make personal chit chat and ask about my weekend plans. So fake and unnatural. If I went to Starbucks, I certainly wouldn't want to discuss race relations with my barista.

Commerce cares about commerce; that's its sole "value." This is just a way to get into the news cycle and reinforce the dominant ideology of the clientele to make more money (see also: Hobby Lobby, etc.)

My real complaint isn't the corporate manipulation; it's the idea that a Starbucks barista has anything of value to say on any topic except indy bands and overpriced coffee. This is like discussing the social ramifications of Stonewall with the poor s.o.b. stuck working the counter at Chik-Fil-A.

I'm somewhat reminded of a Dennis Leary bit. "You're in a 7-11, you're 18 years old, you don't know sh*t about sh*t, and PULL UP YOUR PANTS!"

Actually, I checked. The server exists, but it looks to have the default Apache page. Can't seem to find ICANN info on it.
