What has disappeared since you were a kid

Re: What has disappeared since you were a kid

Specifically to Detroit and other:

..., Joshua Doore Furniture... just to name a few.
"You got an uncle in the furniture business,..Joshua Doore" Funny what we remember.

I remember Sinclair gas stations. They used to give away plastic toy dinosaurs. I had a toy box full of those things.

Re: What has disappeared since you were a kid

Saturday morning wrestling and squiggle porn.

Agreed, NWA/WCW Power Hour(used to be Friday Night) and WWF Wrestling Challenge on Saturday mornings, NWA's Worldchampionship Wrestling and WCW Saturday Night on TBS, NWA/WCW Worldwide on Saturday nights followed by the USWA/GWF on Saturday nights. Then AWA All-Star Wrestling and WWF Superstars and All-American wrestling on Sunday mornings, and NWA/WCW Main Event on Sunday nights. Then WWF Prime Time Wrestling/Monday Night Raw on Monday Nights.

Also gone related to pro wrestling, the Indian Strap Match. Amazing when being politically correct makes its way into the pro wrestling world.

Scrambled porn hoping to see a boob is long gone....

We used to walk from down by Hanscom AFB to the center of Bedford (MA) must have been at least a few miles to the penny candy store. Got a little bag of candy that you picked out for a few cents a piece and then walked home eating it.

Rec dept programs in the summer where you did stuff like crafts and archery- all for free- just walk down to the forest where they held it and do whatever. No signup

Reber's Butter Beans, a food I loved for at least 50 years and as of last year, gone forever. It's hard to face my remaining years without them. Sniff.

-Arcades (I know they still exist, but they are getting rare)

Re: What has disappeared since you were a kid

There were some good ones in this old nostalgia thread :
  • Carbon paper
  • Wacky Packs
  • Clear beer
  • Morganna the Kissing Bandit
  • Pogs
  • phone booths
  • Interstate signs in kilometers when Jimmy Carter trying to convert the USA to the metric system

I don't recall having participated in Duck & Cover drills in grade school but I remember seeing the pamphlets & posters & instructional movies as a young kid in the 70's.
