What facility uprades does your team's rink in need?

Re: What facility uprades does your team's rink in need?

There is a large portion of 4 different sections in Alfond that can't see one of the goals, and the back few rows of the lower level in one of the endzones can't see the main scoreboard. A standard bowl could not be a downgrade, at least in terms of sightlines.

We reserve those sections for fans of the opposing teams usually. :D

Re: What facility uprades does your team's rink in need?

We could also use a new color scheme on the seats. The first and second level make sense (brown and red; our team colors), but then the top level is...yellow? Someone crapped the bed on that one, and it looks absolutely revolting.

I've never been to your arena and can't comment on attendance, but seriously, seat color? Isn't the best way to mitigate the awful seat color to fill them? Then you won't see the seats! :p

Re: What facility uprades does your team's rink in need?

I was once given a talking to because I was referring to a UMD player as "Goldilocks" as the Bulldogs were going to their dressing room at the end of a period. So, yeah... Per Mar can eat it. I'm sure that for the most part, Per Mar being a bunch of uptight, anal folk is because that's how the UW Athletic Dept. wants it (see also: the sign/flag policy). But still...

Also, hockey games were at the Coliseum, bouncyball was at the fieldhouse. Just so you're clear...

Yes, I know that. Per Mar did not even run the security at the coliseum:p ...And yes, that crap is put out by the UW, Per Mar just follows UW's instructions. Plus when there is a contract year for Per Mar, they enforce the rules a lot more strictly. UW security heads like it when people can kicked out, it makes them think Per Mar is doing something other than watching the games.

The Berry needs a video display for replays (esp. with the CCHA refs), more leg room all around ( I get dents in my knees from the seats in front of me), better security to keep people (puck bunnies and high school kids) from continually walking in front of people like crack heads with ADD while people are trying to watch hockey.

There were rumors of NMU creating a basketball arena, but I think that's been thrown out, however, if there were to build a seperate arena, my idea would be to keep the Berry as the basketball/concert venue and build a strictly hockey/USOEC speed skating venue with better sightlines, more friendly fan and athlete facilities, video display and tv production upgrades etc.

Oh, and not looking like a fleet of concrete trucks just dumped a load on the ground would be nice.

/get off my lawn

Lower the level of Lake Superior so the Berry can have a deeper bowl. ;)

Oh, and one thing MacInnes could use: a bus from the downtown bars to the game and back. :D

Re: What facility uprades does your team's rink in need?

PC needs an administration that has the slightest interest in what they're doing and the ability to pay attention.

Everything else is secondary.

Re: What facility uprades does your team's rink in need?

Fans. The Schott need fans. Oh, did I mention, fans? That would help the facility. That, and having some fans show up.

Something a little smaller than Rockford's center video board would be nice.

It looks like a couple of 60" plasma's attached with a ring matrix board under it.

I'm sure with the right Daktronics graphics package and what not, you could display replays on it with plenty of room for the score and stats.

The sounds system at Bentley's JAR consists of two soup cans, some string, and a Fisher Price Sing-a-Long karaoke machine duct taped to the rafters.

Re: What facility uprades does your team's rink in need?

This might be a bit premature, but the Ralph could use some references for a good logo removal contractor.

Denver:

1. Better accoustics/new PA system. They skimped on this when the place was built, and now it really shows.

2. New side scoreboards (2). The old ones are 10 years old now and don't work sometimes. An HD center scoreboard would'nt hurt, either.

3. Adjust lighting for TV. Too many shadows. Fine in the building.

4. More history and tradition on display. Copy the photos from the locker room area to the concourses. Move the trophies from the gold club to the concourses. Give a better place of prominence to the Murray Armstrong statue. More banners and large graphics like Marriucci.

5. Bigger and more well stocked gift shop. I miss the old shop. It's now a yoga studio by day and serves as a gathering spot for kids and groups on game nights.

6. Better pizza. The carved roast beef sandwiches are are great, but the pizza sucks.

7. Aggressive ushers need to go. This is hockey game, not a church service.

8. More money into the band. They do a nice job. Need to go from 40 members to 80 so they can play at more games.

9. More Boone. Let the guy skate!

10. More NCAA title banners. Seven is not enough!

I don't think this can be said enough. Mariucci (and the Ralph) should be copied (in one form or another) in concourses in every rink around the country. Dear god - celebrate your traditions!

Re: What facility uprades does your team's rink in need?

Agree, everyone I bring to HFH asks me why half the seats are blue and the other half red. Make them all red or cover the blue up with black paint.
Also, wishful thinking here but Id like to see the walkway around the glass be moved up behind the seats somehow, theres nothing more frustrating then trying to watch the game while the late arrivals walk by in front of you trying to find there seats.

The removal of the front walkway was part of the original design for the 1980s renovation. They were going to create a concourse at the top (which would have required escalators) and fill in rows down to the boards. Of course that would have cost a lot of money so it was pushed off to a second phase which, of course, never happened. I wonder if we'll ever see phase II of the ECAV project?

I have said for years that The Houston Field House (RPI) could be improved tremendously without spending a ton of money simply by making the seating into an oval shape insted of the current rectangular arrangement. They should also invest in some paint so they can get rid of all the blue seats which have been a mystery to me for years as blue has never been a school color.

I agree. If they could do something similar in the East end to what they did to the corners in the West it would make for a much better facility. It might cut capacity but the number of good seats would be increased. Unfortunately there's less room at that end and they would still need the Zamboni tunnel so it wouldn't be as easy as the earlier work.

Re: What facility uprades does your team's rink in need?

Perhaps a world junior tribute similar to the olympic tribute area (although not nearly as grand in scale).

New nets. The current nets are awful and terribly distracting.

Other than that I can't really think of any.

Agree with this...Also start a bonfire with those blue curtains on the east end and replace with Black or Red ones, or, as you said, go to an oval shape.

1. Fans who give a chit (too many that are there sit on their hands).
2. Move the sound system speakers from center ice to the edge of the glass; you can't hear anything if you are sitting below the glass. Who thought that out? It's either volume so loud it hurts everybody else, or just a muffled droning for the folks down front. By placing the speakers at the edge of the glass rather than a tight circle at center ice, you no longer have the glass dampening the sound.
3. Video replay board somewhere (center ice, or where the other info board is).
4. Give me a taser to tase people who decide that the narrowest parts of the arena concourse would be the best place to congregate and talk. Seriously, go stand against the walls behind sections 103 - 109 or 114 - 120; not in the corners. Yes, it bothers me that much.
5. Wins. And a national championship banner.

Re: What facility uprades does your team's rink in need?

For Robert Morris, the Island Sports Center could use some chairbacks badly. Even if its just a bench back. Could also use those heating lamps above the seating area to be turned on once in a while. And I'd love a reason to knock down the wall behind the benches and have another real side of seating too, hopefully the crowds will increase to warrant this.

Overall though, it's a nice facility, restrooms and concessions are very good and sightlines are awesome.

Re: What facility uprades does your team's rink in need?

At the Bank @ Quinnipiac being so new there is not much to complain about, but I'll try...

1. A GOAL HORN that can be heard.
2. Bar stool to watch the game at our perch.
3. Students who understand the game of hockey.
4. NO MORE WAVE!
5. Blue road jerseys in the kiosk for purchase.
6. Updated banners.

:)

I take it you don't know much about Brown Hockey. We haven't sold out a game (or come close to it) since 2003. The yellow seats will continue to be displayed until Brown has consistently good teams again.

In concept, your solution is perfect. In reality, it is laughable. :p
