What college hockey arenas serve alcohol?

Re: What college hockey arenas serve alcohol?

For those that do, are there wet sections in the stands, or is it open anywhere?

Again for UAH: it's open with service on the concourse for all but a small amount of on-ice seats, where both food and beverages of all sorts are available to table-side service.

Re: What college hockey arenas serve alcohol?

Bear, wine and liquor are served at the Sanford Center in Bemidji. But it is off campus and a city run arena.

Re: What college hockey arenas serve alcohol?

Matthews doesn't serve alcohol at the concession stands but the Varsity Club is open to everyone 21+ and there is a full bar in there. Really reasonable prices but you can't bring your drink with you out into the arena so it gets pretty crowded pre-game and during intermissions.

Re: What college hockey arenas serve alcohol?

Pursuant to my interests, does the Kohl center serve beer?

Re: What college hockey arenas serve alcohol?

Beer and wine are sold at BG and is allowed throughout the arena.

Re: What college hockey arenas serve alcohol?

At Ohio State for a number of years only beer & some wine was sold on the club level and you weren't permitted up there without a ticket for that level and you couldn't take the alcohol off that level. Then they opened the level for anybody to go up there and buy but still couldn't take it off that level. Finally they opened alcohol sales on all the levels and do you know why? Because it brings in MONEY!
They started beer sales at our football games last season but how much sales could they have when most of the people coming in are half blitzed to begin with? :D

Re: What college hockey arenas serve alcohol?

That's the way, go "old School"!

2006, CCHA quarters against Omaha. I'm with the Puckheads drinking heavily in the parking lot of the Berry. When I walk into the arena, my steps get very heavy. I somehow make it to my seat, where I sit there, thinking if I don't move, nothing will happen. 5 minutes later, I feel something come up. I try to make it to the bathroom, but I end up puking on the stairs between sections 15-16. NMU Public Safety escorts me out of the building; our 3rd string goalie had a party bus. I was on that bus the rest of the night listening to the game. Ended up puking a couple more times.

Game over, we sweep Omaha, and everyone comes out with "we're going to the Joe" chants. After the parking lot celebration, I go back to my dorm, stomach still on the rocks. I was grateful for the grease I ate the following morning.

Re: What college hockey arenas serve alcohol?

I know I didn't see it. Of course, I stuck around my standing area when I went.

Colgate's the same way. Cornell, SLU, and RPI are dry.

They sold beer at the HFH when I was a student. I don't recall when they stopped, perhaps when the NY drinking age was raised from 18 to 21.

Re: What college hockey arenas serve alcohol?

Bentley Arena didn't sell any alcohol for the inaugural games this season, but will be selling beer and wine in the Arena starting next season.

At the University of Wisconsin, the Kohl Center has limited options:

General Public - no alcohol sales
Suites/Clubs - in-room service only
Donors of a certain level - access to a "buy here, drink here" lounge on the 2nd floor for beer (maybe wine?). I only went there once and that was 2 years ago. They had dozens of glasses of Spotted Cow pre-poured so they were flat and tasteless by the time you got to drink it.

Re: What college hockey arenas serve alcohol?

Thank the heavens you can get beer and wine at the Sully, least UAA didn't get that backwards.

Re: What college hockey arenas serve alcohol?

You can probably get beer and the Friends of sections in certain other HE rinks. Definitely PC. Maybe MC and NU as well? Pretty sure that doesn't count.

You can also get alcohol on the outside pavilion at PC for season ticket holder or pay $5 for access.

Re: What college hockey arenas serve alcohol?

UMASS fans here. We made it to a Bemidji vs Air Force series this past October. Had a very nice time at the Sanford Center, and met some really nice people. We sat up top right near the bar area by chance. It was different being able to grab a beer or two there. Most Hockey East Arenas do not allow it. Agganis Arena in Boston allows one beer and they scan your drivers license to make sure its just one. Tsongas Arena in Lowell does serve beer BUT for a hefty price. At most of the other arena you must be a donor or belong to their team clubs, like at UMASS they have the "POND CLUB." But not to the regular ticketed fans.
A.I.C. in Atlantic Hockey which is next town over from us in Springfield, MA. does sell beer and whine also for a hefty price. But that arena (MassMutual Center) is not on campus and is in down town Springfield and home to the (AHL Springfield T-Birds, Florida Panthers) farm team.

Re: What college hockey arenas serve alcohol?

No alcohol in any ECAC rink I have been to except when in the private supporters lounges. Sacred Heart serves alcohol at it's home games at Webster Bank Arena. Ironically, there will be no booze at the same Arena today for the East Regional.

Re: What college hockey arenas serve alcohol?

As a follow-up to this it’s limited to the people with club/box seat tickets. Not to General Admission (unless that changed this year, which I doubt...)
The beer garden is new this past season and is on the opposite side from the club/box area. There's a little white picket fence around it with a bouncer checking IDs and not letting the alcohol out of the area. It is for everyone old enough.
