Western Michigan: Preseason 2009-10

Re: Western Michigan: Preseason 2009-10

It's been a long time since there has been an active WMU thread on here. I hope I'm not the only one left around here, I hate talking to myself.

What are your expectations?

Season predictions?

Alumni news?

Culhane getting fired rumors?

I started a new series on my blog today previewing the freshman class. Luke Witkowski was the first one up.

I find it so hard to believe how much things have changed. For decades I couldn't wait for the season to start. I dug up everything that I could on the new players and what the returnees had done over the summer. I screamed, I yelled. I collapsed when the Broncos lost and and I flew when they won. But over the last couple years I've gone from "Who cares" to "Oh no, not yet another crappy season of Bronco hockey". I really hope this is my last year. The ECHL looks inviting. I'm hoping Kalamazoo's new team will prove an interesting alternative to the college team that cannot compete in it's own league.

Re: Western Michigan: Preseason 2009-10

Max Campbell puts up 35 goals while Riley posts a 1.5 GAA and .970 SV%? Connauton returns by disguising himself as Peter Kavaya? Trevor Elias is the next Great One?

I like the way you think. Sadly they have the worst head coach in all of hockey in their way right now.

Re: Western Michigan: Preseason 2009-10

My best wishes to Erickson. Prayers are with him, his family, and friends.

Re: Western Michigan: Preseason 2009-10

Looking forward to a visit from the Broncos to kick off our 2009-10 home slate. Any of y'all coming to Huntsville?

Geof

What the??????? Why????? Are they maybe just trying to get more bodies for the "scrimmage" on the 7th or the Brown & Gold game, and then let 'em go? I know some high school seniors that would be happy to oblige, but, well....they're in high school.

I'm afraid all my eligibility has been used up. Yours too Nick. :P

Re: Western Michigan: Preseason 2009-10

Maybe i should have read this thread before buying my Pick Six ticket package from the WMU AD?! The player that left a message about hockey tickets sounded a lot more upbeat about the coming season than any of you guys!;)

The last flicker of hope I had under the current regime was beaten out of me at the 10-0 game you see in Bronco's sig.

Moe, I like your blog, I look forward to reading it during the season. When you listed your preseason poll I noticed that you mentioned that BG Defense was "horrible", and so I thought I would check last years stats. As it turns out, WMU averaged 27.1 shots per game and they allowed 36.1 shots per game. While BG averaged 31.5 shots per game and allowed an average of 27.5 shots per game. Horrible?

1 - I never said WMU's wasn't horrible. It was, but in a much different way then BGSU's.

2 - BGSU allowed one more goal against on the season then WMU in fewer games played.

3 - There are other stats then just shots allowed... such as goals allowed, quality scoring chances allowed, goaltender stats (BGSU's save % was atrocious), etc.
