KALAMAZOO — Western Michigan University made a strong commitment to the future of its hockey program Saturday.
WMU's administration, with backing from school donors, gave hockey coach Jeff Blashill a significant pay raise and a one-year extension on his contract.
Blashill’s annual guaranteed salary beginning on May 1 increases to $275,000 — up from $150,000 this past season — with a base salary of $175,000 and an additional $100,000 in supplemental income awarded for radio, television and online appearances. The duration of his contract has been extended through the 2015-16 season.
His yearly earnings could reach $375,000 if certain academic and athletic incentives are met.
