Western Michigan @ Alaska, March 5,6,?

Re: Western Michigan @ Alaska, March 5,6,?

We're in a nice groove right now. Our "big line" is rolling. Tonight is not going to get any easier, but if the boys control the game like they did last night, they should be fine.

Re: Western Michigan @ Alaska, March 5,6,?

Your actually #7 in the PWR you lose your comparison tiebreakers. But still remarkable feat staying ahead of North Dakota.

Alaska might be one of the most dangerous teams in the country now that it seems they have found a way to score goals consistantly. Just so you know you are being watched in oxford after your recent success and making us look twice.

We moved up to 5 in pairwise.

It may all be for naught if we don't win tonight and get at least one W in Marquette.

Not sure if last night’s 4-0 win over WMU was good a way to start the playoffs. Getting a win is always good, but we sometimes looked sloppy even though we didn’t end up paying a price. And although not always a good measure, last night’s 44-16 SOG margin by the Nooks was somewhat indicative of the game.

The Broncos got solid goaltending, but maybe not Gills best game. But he did stop 40 out of 44 shots. He could even be tougher Saturday night. The Broncos seemed to transition well, just never got any offense going in our zone. Greenham had to pay attention, but didn’t get a lot of action.

The Carlson was only half full, but that was to be expected. Yesterday was the beginning of spring break and UAF students and a lot of families head off somewhere. Missed the UAF band. We also had the Ice Dogs (Jr. A team) in town and fighting for home ice, families attending regional high school basketball championships hosted here and on the road. Wouldn't expect any more tonight.

But, a few photos from last night.

The Broncos seemed to be chasing Nooks all night long...

Greenham often looked a little lonely...

But had to step up when duty called.

Petovello broke the ice about seven minutes into the first period.

Gill faced a lot of shots...

And usually had company...

Dion had his usual solid game, whether it be setting up teammates...

Or battling in front of the net.

The defense did a good job all night long and didn’t give the Broncos much other than grief.

If your team just wins thats all you need to cheer for. Can't worry about others this time of year, just win the games in front of you and your tourny spot will work itself out.

I enjoy trying to figure out different scenarios and find it interesting to keep an eye on what else is going on, also it helps to give a rooting interest in other games, so although I will mostly be cheering for the Nanooks to win, I will be watching other games, too.

Any word on the injured Bronco? I didn’t see the collision, but those around me didn’t think anything looked intentional at all. Some of the later stuff was a different story, by both sides. Understandably, the Broncos are a frustrated team right now, but the Nooks can’t afford any injuries or to get caught up in chippy play. And if it ends for the Broncos this weekend, I'm sure they don't want it ending up up that note either. Hope everyone keeps their cool.

I don't think we looked sloppy at all. We controlled the game from start to finish. The score could have been 7-0 if it wasn't for Gill. We played very good positional hockey, and controlled the middle of the ice. They had a few chances, but nothing great. We were solid from the top down. Tonight will be a different game, and we need to play like we did last night and close it out. Greenham will need to be on his game tonight. I was a little irritated with the crowd size last night, but I forgot about everything that is going on. Even with the smaller crowd, it was a good atmosphere.

I would agree that we played fairly well. We out-shot them 44-16 and outscored them 4-0. We controlled play. Each of our lines brought a different dimension to our game and they were all solid. Our defense gave them nothing last night except for a few sloppy plays. Sloppy “plays” instead of sloppy play is more what I meant. I thought we had more unforced turnovers last night than we normally see from the Nooks, which could have been problematic against a more opportunistic team. We usually manage the puck very well. That’s our strength. I would guess that the team is being reminded about the importance of puck management as we speak.

Anyway, keep it going Nooks. One game at a time. Nothing matters but tonight’s game

Go Nooks!

Agreed. I thought Ron Meyers line was real good last night. They weren't fancy, but very effective. They brough a lot of energy. We need it again tonight.
GO NOOKS!

Just heard that Clackson tore his ACL from the hit.
