West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

SCSU fans should savor watching Jonny Brodzinski playing this weekend, because word is that he will be signing as soon as the Huskies season is done.

Word from who?
Talked with his dad a couple weeks ago and Mike said while the Kings are pushing, they are going to wait because the degree matters.

That's Mike's canned response. The Kings will argue that Jonny will be able to sign and finish his degree in the off-season and/or in his spare time. They're not wrong either. I believe he'll probably sign and finish up his degree over the course of the next two years.

IF Jonny returns, it'll be to win an NCAA Championship and set the Huskies goal scoring record. And, to a lesser extent, to finish his degree. I think he's probably gone though.

Maybe it is a canned response, but I don't think Mike got his degree and while yes you can come back and finish, it's not that easy to do while playing full time so I don't think he's blowing smoke saying the degree matters.
He saw Dowd, Gravel, LeBlanc all stay and it paid off for them and the team, plus if Motzko shows him how deep this team could be next season and that they could compete for a title, that'd be hard to turn down IMO.
But I also subscribe to the notion that it's not a mistake to stay and kids don't regret that but it can be to leave.

My cousins played hockey with Jonny in Blaine, so my uncle knows his dad and talks to him pretty often. My uncle texted me "word is Brodzkinski is signing as soon as they are done". Obviously not something I wanted to hear so I said "who did you hear that from?". He said "his dad, others in Blaine".

Maybe you also know Mike, but if you don't I could understand why he would tell an SCSU fan that Jonny is coming back as it really doesn't benefit him to say otherwise.

Rand, Federico and Peca press conferences from 3/23

Assuming the news that Anas will not play is accurate, it certainly puts a strain on Qpac's chances to win, but even more so, I think its a bummer for the fans who will attend this regional and won't get to see him play. It's always great to see super talented players in person. I've seen 3 Qpac games since he got there and he's a pretty special player...always does 1 or 2 things during a game that will make even the most seasoned hockey fan say "wow!".

You know what else is tough to turn down? A contract with a 6 or 7 digit number on it. :p

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

Although Anas might not be playing. Im excited for the western fans to see Matt Peca. He makes things look easy. If you havent heard of him, take at look and start at 2:00 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGLUFVSeq4I . Unfortunately he has ran into shoulder problems since then for the past two years but he shows signs of brilliance every so often. Enjoy the games everyone. Go Q

True...but as long as he doesn't blow out a knee next year, that number could be higher after becoming the Huskies' all-time scoring leader.

Eh. Maybe. On the other hand, the Kings may push harder now, for fear of losing him to the FA market if they wait too long.

It is always nice to see players stay in college, but it is rarer and rarer to find the elite players that are willing to do that these days. The times we live in.

Likely not higher as I'm sure the Kings would offer a max deal, but the money would be there.
As for losing his rights, all the Kings would have to do is look tothe other two Huskies in Manchester.
Dowd and Gravel didn't bail, I don't think Brodz would either.
Hell, the Kings didn't offer Gravel a contract and he could have signed with anyone but he took a minor league deal with Manchester because he wants to be a King, he wants to play for the team that drafted him.
Like I said, I just look at it that I've never heard anyone say they regretted staying, but I've heard more than a few say they regretted leaving early.
To each their own and I'd wish him well, but next year could be a very special season for the Huskies and he'd be a huge part of that.

Re: West Regional: North Dakota, Michigan Tech, St. Cloud State, Quinnipiac

Let's just figure it this way: the debate would be stay for a Championship, or leave to get $, and complete his lifelong dream and become a professional hockey player. Why not just rattle off for wins for him, let him take the title, and then lets watch him sign on the dotted line with the defending Stanley Cup Champions. Everyone wins.

I certainly hope you're right, but I anticipate you're wrong. I'm not trying to convert you into a pessimist, but I don't want you to complain about being misled by previous comments made by the player or his parents when he goes pro.

I completely agree and I hope this thought has occurred to Jonny.

BTW, the best offer the Kings can make is the rookie max PLUS burning a year of the ELC. They pretty much offered him the max last year, but I don't believed they offered to burn a year of his ELC. It'll be interesting to see if they add that as sweetener, which will be more likely if the Kings miss the playoffs. That would mean Jonny will get some time with the Kings this season.

Don't you guys have your own thread? This is the one where we talk about our needs for sandbags and speculate on the location of the tree.

If he goes, he goes.
I may not agree with it but I'm not going to fault Mike for saying something different.

Would love to see him stick around for one more year but completely understand if he doesn't. Can't blame him for taking the money and giving the pro gig a shot. Can always go back to school and finish up if it doesn't work out.

Losing some good seniors off this team this year, would hurt to see him added to that list.

Have we confirmed that the tree is in Fargo? I'm pretty sure the tree is in Grand Forks.

I can confirm the tree is in fact in Fargo. It prevents me from being able to get DirecTV.
