  • The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways. Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar. We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.

We're BACK!!!!

Time to Celebrate!!!!

Sounded like a massive failure that had to all be dealt with at the same time. Good work! Thanks for bringing the board back.

Was just coming here to post the same thing. Have you noticed any changes?

From what I understand (as I "reported a problem" to send the people as much virtual support that I could- encouragement is a good thing)- there was a big power failure that took down a lot of hardware. So the down time was not for an upgrade- it was for survival.

Which kind of suggests that every once in a while, an ad should be clicked through to get some revenue.

One of the times I checked a Xenforo board was what popped up...I had a moment of hope the upgrade was coming during the down time. But alas...

For a while did say they would do it at the same time. I guessed they couldn't chew gum and walk at the same time. :-)

It wasn't fun. We had two servers with multiple virtual machines. One server with several virtual machines had its drives and motherboard fried. We had been planning to move to a completely cloud-based set up instead of our own hardware this summer. Fortunately we had a current database for the Fan Forum. We also had to restore our server with stats and the app server as well as the bracket challenge.

So we've migrated the Fan Forum to a new cloud server for now and hope to move from vBulletin to Xenforo in the offseason for much better performance. We were trying to do it now but it was too much to do all at once, so we decided to just get this back up and running.

Yikes. Thanks for the info Ed. :^)

Adding my thanks too! The icon on my tab changed. I got a bit lost because when I scanned across the top the usual logo was gone. This one is retro.

Has anyone else noticed more junk threads popping up? Not sure if that's a result of whatever quick upgrade they did on Saturday.

Is the site acting finnicky for anyone else? The main board page loads fine, but trying to get to any individual thread takes 30+ seconds to load. Happens on both the phone and the desktop.

I’ve had trouble with posts being posted and loading in.

Nice work, and I can relate to the staggering amount of work this entails (my hospital system had a complete server failure January of 2020, then a damaging malware attack July of 2020 that we're still dealing with).

Question - is there no way to report a post? Sure, spam is annoying but can be ignored. I'm more concerned with trolls coming in here and posting ... less good stuff.
