While I agree entirely with your sentiment on the topic another dog that won't hunt is "suck it up buttercup." How do we help the people who might be inclined to vote correctly this fall and in 2024 to see beyond the momentary financial difficulties inflation (and all its related issues) bring to a lot of people?

If we give up on the independents and democrats who might very likely tip the scales in the fascists favor we may as well just give up in general. We know republicans are a lost cause and will vote fascist now until the end of time. But there are more of us deep down than there are of them. So how do we put them down for good? I get the sense that most people here don't think violence is the answer. What is?

Liberal economic populism. The New Deal. Antitrust and regulation. Single payer. Higher minimum wage. Worker and consumer protections.

We have to be the party that soaks the rich but also delivers for the working class, and that means getting clean from corporate lobby donations. There is just as high a percentage of poor people that are intelligent non-sociopaths as rich people. Plenty of them will respond to a guy like Beau of the Fifth Column. Our talking hair-dos need the right affect, but we also need the right policies. We have to be legit, and right now the mechanism of the Democratic party is corrupt and they can smell it.

But our Democratic leadership has to do a LOT better job of explaining to these people just what they've done to help them, and how, depending how votes go, is in jeopardy of being taken from them.

For example, the $350 per child tax credit has either already expired, or is soon to do so. Because Republicans, and some Democrats, are loathe to extend it.

Enhanced subsidy support for the ACA is set to expire at the end of the year; extension was included in the Build Back Better plan, but we all know what happened with that, and whatever part of it Manchin says he's open to support now doesn't include them.

The steepest increase will be for the lowest-income enrollees, as usual. Under ARPA, about 42% of enrollees now pay nothing or very little for a monthly premium for generous silver-level plans. That’s a big chunk of people. They also have annual deductibles under $200. To get premiums that are as affordable without the ARPA subsidies, they would need to switch to a bronze-level plan, which could have a deductible of $7,000 or more. But middle- and upper-income people will potentially lose subsidy eligibility as well.

So, big increases in healthcare costs for people. On top of the cost of diesel which Walrus is all upset about. Talk about inflationary. Why doesn't he tell his Republican representatives to support the BBB plan, and keep health costs lower? No idea.(well, I sorta do).

190 House republicans voted against capping deductible costs on insulin. Anyone heard the Democrats talking about this?

All things that can help regular people make their lives better, help them to get by, as Wally is sooo concerned about. So why aren't Democrats getting that message out? And why doesn't Wally bltch about the Republicans who keep blocking these things from happening?
 
Meanwhile the GOP is skewering the Dems over legal weed and the Dems are silent to defend themselves. The friggin people support it, it is a winner of an agenda, and crickets from the morons.

The Dems hate winning. They prefer to be the party out of power so they can whine.

The GOP is still using the same BS lies about it that have been around since my father was in college. (one day it is pot...THEN YOU ARE HOOKED ON HEROIN AND METH AND KILLING PEOPLE!!1!!!!!!!1111) Only Boomers buy that crap anymore and half of them are high anyways. Marijuana legalization not only makes the youths happy (distracting from the student loan problem that Biden is not dealing with) but it shores up the minority vote literally everywhere. The Middle, most of whom could give a rats azz if people get high, will support the tax money it brings in and the Far Left will love the decriminalization in general. hell South Dakota showed that even Red States are not as against this as the fundies hope...cause anyone that isnt a fuckwit that might be Right of Center wants less rules not more rules.

The only people who truly are upset are cops, cause finding a bag of weed on a Darkie is an easy way to find a new snitch. After a year though they won't care either because it makes their job a helluva lot easier. Then it will just be the Prison Industrial Complex that will care and well fuck them and their backwards opinions on how to rehabilitate.

This is a gimme putt, especially since it won't pass the Senate. (meaning it doesn't matter...yet!) Hell for a party that usually only goes by what they read in polls they are just being derelict here. Last year polling showed majorities support full legalization. They should make this a top line item, and when it fails they run the crap out of ads stating how the GOP is the party of big government over reach.

I don't know who the Dems having doing their strategy but they should be fired yesterday. To say they have dropped the ball since Biden took over is maybe the biggest understatement ever. COVID is waning, the economy is strong, unemployment is way down and jobs are way up. We havent gotten over-involved in The Flaccid One's Late Life Crisis and we are getting a supremely qualified Justice for the Court. (along with plenty of other openings left unfilled by the fuckwits) But no...they let the fucking talking points be about the border, gas prices and so on. From now until September The House should be putting forth an aggressive agenda. Pass every bill you can to show the voters what the Dem Party stands for and what the GOP loathes. (and Biden should be going town to town touting all of them!) They hate people having fun, they hate people being able to afford health care, they hate education, they hate infrastructure, they hate women having rights, they hate Blacks, they hate Jews, the really hate Muslims and they absolutely hate equality. They are anti-gay, anti-union and anti-democracy and they say so openly. So pass everything in the agenda, especially if the Senate will fail to pass it. Then from September to Election Day you run ads saying "You saw what we want, you saw who stood in our way. If you want these things vote or stop whining!" (use better words ;^) ) Put some pressure on...whatever it is they are actually doing is worse than prevent defense in a one score game.

Your first sentence is right on the money. There are a lot of people in our country who are only in it for themselves and it’s hard for the democrats to stay true to their principles and still appeal to them.

Climate twitter can be exhausting. I get that many in the field are disappointed with the Biden admin so far, but the answer isn’t to elect republicans and they know that.

people will be baking alive soon and still screaming about renewables and electing Rs.

on healthcare, I wish we could have six months of single payer to show people. Imagine being able to quit your job and not have to query about paying 1k a month for coverage that dies t even cover anything

No one will listen. No one is listening to Rachel Bitecofer either. The Democrats are two monkeys humping a football 24/7. Maybe Yang is right. Maybe we need 8 parties like some of the other nations that run multi party systems. If we split the two dogs up maybe things could actually change and get done.
