Weekend Scores 11/18 & 11/23

Re: Weekend Scores 11/18 & 11/23

pshaw

Even my UND Insider stream thinks the game has ended once overtime is finished as they cut me off!
If you and I are watching the same thing, why did yours get cut off but not mine? However, there was one commercial break where I was suddenly watching Boise State football, then men's hockey, and basically half of someone's satellite package until they found the women's game again.

I'm not sure what happened when it got disengaged, but when I tried to get back on it it told me the event had ended.

But it was a shootout so I really didn't mind that much :p

Re: Weekend Scores 11/18 & 11/23

A joke....which is exactly what a shootout is. This is hockey, not soccer! No game should be decided by this stupid method of breaking a tie. I'd prefer to see the rule change to an extended OT like anywhere from 7 to 10 minutes total and get rid of the stupid shootout. It is NOT a good indication of the better team on any given day. There's nothing wrong with a great game that ends in a hard earned tie score.

Agreed. But if they do need to do some nonsensical thing that really isn't hockey to determine a "winner", then I'd rather have a shootout over a four-on-four, or worse yet, a three-on-three OT. Why? Because a shootout is just so ridiculous that as soon as it is over, they just mark a tie down in the official stats and move on with life. I'd hate to have a team make the NCAA Tournament (or not) because of the result of some gadget OT.

Sorry. I'm still not comprehending.

Pretty sure they've studied the numbers and have found that shootouts don't really have a drastic impact on the standings over the course of a season, which means it's a waste of time other than "adding excitement for the fans" or some such nonsense. I don't think it has much impact on whether or not teams end up tied in the standings in overall points at the end of the season, so it's mainly another form of the various criteria for tiebreakers. Hey, maybe at the end of a tied game they should divide each team into three smaller teams each (since most teams have 3 goalies) and play three mini games of 3 vs 3 cross-ice hockey in each of the three zones to determine the tiebreaker with all three mini games going on concurrently. Now that would be entertaining for the fans! ;)

I sincerely doubt they studied the impact at all, how could they? Since shootout wins/loses give no indication of which team is better it should have no impact on the standings but it does. I believe the shoot out point was the difference between first and second in the WCHA last year. I doubt the WCHA cares if it affects the standings or play-offs, they only care that their belief is it will increase interest in the league and revenue.

Maybe they should just give each team 1 point & treat the shootout like my old coach treated us. "If you win you get a dipped cone when we go to Dairy Queen. If you lose, no coating!. Chocolate is for winners!"

Getting back to the title of this thread

In the ECAC Clarkson and SLU take care of business
Clarkson 4 Yale 1
SLU 5 Brown 0
Colgate gets 0 points on the weekend
Quinny 3 Colgate 1
Here comes Cornell and there goes Princeton
Cornell 2 Princeton 1

Re: Weekend Scores 11/18 & 11/23

Once again Minnesota gives up the first goal of the game...1-0 UND and just as I'm typing Minnesota scores a power play goal to tie it up.

Re: Weekend Scores 11/18 & 11/23

MSU 2 OSU 1

First, congrats to the Mavericks on their first WCHA win but second, WTH OSU?

Having seen BSU, MSU, OSU and SCSU play I would not have guessed 2 splits this weekend.

Mavericks are much improved. Dominated with possession and a solid fore-check. Should have been a shutout but there was a bad turnover at the blue line which led to an OSU score. Solid win for MSU.

Re: Weekend Scores 11/18 & 11/23

Former Harvard star Mary Parker has two goals for BU as they take the lead 2-1 after two periods of play.

Re: Weekend Scores 11/18 & 11/23

After drawing a late penalty Haley Mullins gets back on the ice and scores on a breakaway with 49.6 seconds to go to tie it at 3-3. Now in OT.

Re: Weekend Scores 11/18 & 11/23

BU's Victoria Bach nets the overtime game winner to win it 4-3.
