WCHA Playoffs

Re: WCHA Playoffs

Minny 3 Wisco 1 Final

Minny is in Cornell is out.

Minny at Wisco next weekend should be a dandy.

So someone yesterday accused BC of losing to UConn to keep Minny out of the NC$$. Is Wisco now losing to Minny to make sure they get into the NC$$? ;)

That was me sticking my finger in T3's eye. He should take the opportunity to return the favor. Though I I will claim Wisc did it because they hate BC too😁

Re: WCHA Playoffs

So, UW pulled a BC today?

Guess that's why they don't mail it in.

We were talking with some Badger fans before the game & I mentioned that there were years i thought they had the better team but the Gophers beat them & years i thought MN had the better team but lost. You are right, thats why the drop the puck.

I thought the Buckeyes gave us a tougher game.

In 2012 I thought Wisconsin was the better team for most of the year, but by playoff time the Gophers turned it on and I was not at all surprised by the result in Duluth. This year I was very surprised by the last two games, which made the wins all the more sweet. :)

Re: WCHA Playoffs

I thought the Gophers actually played better against the Buckeyes. In fact it was a better game by both teams in terms of crisper passing, smoother breakouts and fewer turnovers and mental errors. As the game wore on today I thought fatigue was beginning to set in. The Gophers had to fight through a real nailbiter for all 60 minutes yesterday with about three fewer hours to fully recover. All the TV timeouts today probably helped offset these factors to some extent.

Hmmm, Shirley did indeed beat out that Gopher girl like I pointed out could very well happen in the pre-season and the Gopher fans just laughed at me. Curl probably finished 2nd LOL.

I wouldn't have voted for any of them. IMO, Gabbie Hughes got screwed, because she had better numbers on a worse team than any of the Badgers or Gophers. She was also the most impactful rookie I saw, beating out Levy and Brändli in that regard.

I would agree with this, and add that the Gophers better keep a close eye on her on Saturday.

So what do your other awards look like? I don't quite understand MJ getting coach of the year. He figured out how to fit 3 excellent Fr into the line-up and produce impactfully, but couldn't get some upperclassmen to soaring heights (maybe Harrington?). There were a good amount on impactful rookies as you stated. I get Pankowski scored the most points so it's hard to go against that, but a case could be made.

Obviously a down year in the league in scoring overall, UM and UW need to figure out how to beat the 6 goalies that teams play against them.

I think Johnson getting CotY is payback for the last two years when his team took the league but coach of the year went to Crowell and then Muzerall. Nobody has a clear-cut case this year.

She didn't have the most points at the end of the season. I'd have gone with Maltais, who is clearly the top offensive player on her team by a sizable margin and was still right up there. I think many went into the season thinking PotY would come from Rooney, Pankowski, Clark, or Pannek. The other three didn't have memorable seasons, so they went with Pankowski. Fair enough.

Minnesota's scoring was fine. Points were down because they committed to four lines throughout, so the top players lost ~ 15-20 percent of their ice time. Thus, individual points take a big of a hit. Nobody had a huge year for either team beyond that.

Usually the coaches get together and agree to spread the wealth a bit. I don't remember a second-place team dominating awards to this extent in the past, so the overall is a little odd, more than any single award being terrible.
