WCHA Playoffs '11.0

Re: WCHA Playoffs '11.0

It would sure be interesting for the ensuing weekend's action if UND upsets UW tomorrow...very interesting...GO FIGHTING SIOUX!

(I'm making the assumption here that that win would allow them to advance to the NCAA Quarter Finals even if they don't win the WCHA Championship Game on Saturday...is that correct...is that how the numbers are looking?)

No, it could depend on how the autobids shake out. For example, if Quinnipiac defeats Cornell tonight, then the ECAC bid will go to one of Quinnipiac, Dartmouth, or Harvard, and that team would get in before UND. Northeastern and Providence also trail the Sioux in the PWR, but are still alive for the HEA autobid. If Mercyhurst wins out (likely), someone other than Cornell wins the ECAC (possible), someone other than BU wins Hockey East (entirely possible), and UND wins the WCHA (less likely), then the loser of the UMD/Minnesota semifinal would most likely not make the NCAA tournament.

Seriously, this is the most disturbing post I've ever read!! :( And, I say that as a WCHA fan. I'm hoping both teams make it (i.e., UMD and MN). Of course, I want UMD to win this semi and the possibility of home ice for the first round NCAA . . . but if all the dominos fell the way you've put it here . . . well, I think one of the best teams in the country would be left out. I guess that's what we get with the auto-bid scenario . . .

To be fair, both Minnesota and UMD left some meat on the bone this season. If that scenario came to pass, UM would be haunted by its 3 losses to NoDak plus the loss to Bemidji St. For UMD, they'd then like to have back the SCSU tie, the Ohio St loss, and the two losses to North Dakota. Plus, the 'Dogs only scheduled the two UConn games, so they didn't make much of an attempt to help their case nationally.

Mercyhurst has an easier road to the tournament. They can schedule 3 difficult games, win one of them, handle most of their middle of the road opponents, and sit back and wait for the competition to knock each other off.

Didn't watch it. Just got home from family stuff, but I assume it was about as good as the final score. Congrats to the rodents, but Wisconsin looked good today.

Re: WCHA Playoffs '11.0

Well good luck to WI and MN in the final . . .

One question: I didn't see the WI/UND game . . . can anyone comment in general (or specifically) about it?

A couple of thoughts on MN vs UMD: The Dogs came out with more energy and scored . . . then got the two penalities nearer the end of the first and that seemed to "help" MN find their energy . . . and they didn't really lose it all game.

Harss was fabulous in goal for UMD can't fault her in any way for the loss . . .I thought she kept them in it. A tip or an extra bounce for UMD and the game couldn've been tied. Had Harss not been on it wouldn've been a blow out. Even though MN had the better of the play for most of the game (aside from the first half or so of the first) it never felt like UMD was out of it. I thought it was a fun game to watch . . . me and the kid had a good time.

Kessell was equally fab for the Gophers. And, they skated very fast as a team . . . could go far in the big tournament.

I'd say pretty much exactly the kind of game I expected. It would've been nice for UMD to have Irwin since she can change the complexion of a game fast. . . . but for now I only hope for her long-term health and that she's given the time she needs to completely heal from (what I'm surmising) is continued issues from concussion.

I thought that a number of people for Wisconsin didn't play their best yesterday, and they still controlled the game throughout. Their 3rd line was just flying, and if they continue to play like that, then they are going to be tough for anyone to stop, given the thunder they possess on the top two lines. Defensively, they continue to improve. Sigh, gulp, or whatever the proper sentiment is when one's team is preparing to face them.

Congrats to Wisconsin!

They were able to capture the title without a single European! ;) Also congrats to Rigsby... An American freshman goalie! Well done!

God Bless America!.... and the Queen!;)

That they were. Is this meant as an anti European editorial POV?
