WCHA Playoff Thread

Re: WCHA Playoff Thread

When two are PPG's after two shaky penalty calls, you can make a case for a large portion of that pinning.

McDonald's flop was comically bad, almost soccer worthy. For a team that's supposed to be so "tough", BG does a lot of play acting.

How are two obvious slashes a shaky penalty call? Poor discipline on Russell cost you that penalty, not the officials.

Re: WCHA Playoff Thread

Always good to remember most of these officials have full time jobs outside of spending their weekends officiating WCHA games..

Re: WCHA Playoff Thread

Believe it or not, I have also always tried not to go after the officials, but the Polglaze 5:00 was hardly even a boarding, the BG player turned, and took a check on the side.
So in all generosity, a 2:00 boarding. As has happened all year with the "major review" the refs take so long to review and 90% of the time make the wrong call after reviewing the video.

Not to mention that at the NCAA level, EVERY game is filmed and a copy is provided for analysis... So yea, Greg knows exactly what is going on with officials in this league. And contrary to popular opinion, the officiating is fine...

The officiating is NOT fine, it's a complete and total embarrassment to the league.

I agree. Yes, refs make bad calls. Yes, it happens to everyone. We all expect perfection from refs and when judgement is required, one side is going to think its a bad call and one side is going to think its a good call. The expectations are unrealistic from too many people. Reffing can always be better because mistakes are inevitable, but its pretty good for the most part.

Bemidji should be upset to. Awful dive by Lake State player. Game winning goal was scored on that power play in the third period.

It was an obvious tripping call. The defensive player was beat and hooked the Laker player’s skate entering the zone full speed.

That being said, Ive seen the offensive player also get an embellishment call in similar situations earlier this season so you make a good point.

That was a well officiated series. Game flow was great and there weren’t that many penalties called or missed. That is how a hockey game should be.

Yes, should have still been tripping with embellishment based on similar situations as you said, which would have lead to 4x4. Overall they were good in the Sault this weekend.

Re: WCHA Playoff Thread

I was surprised they overturned that LSSU goal from a non-goal to a goal. The ref seemed pretty adamant when he waived it off.

Re: WCHA Playoff Thread

It can be both. The call is embellishment, not diving. When there is a trip which should rightly be called, you can also have the offended player embellishing his fall to make sure the referee sees that he got tripped. That is unsportsmanlike conduct and should also be penalized.

So Mankato will be in and a second if the Mavericks don't win the Sauer. Would it be possible for all three to get in if Lake State beats BG in the final?

I haven't looked closely at the rankings but I'm guessing other conference auto-bids would have to go teams that would be in anyway.

I haven't messed around with the Pairwise Predictor, but what (other than wins) does Bowling Green need to get into a comfortable spot, like #12 or so?

Re: WCHA Playoff Thread

And pick plays like BG ran are illegal but no one has ever called it.

Trust me, Tech ran their share of pick plays. I saw several both nights. You seem to think your team is as clean as they come but they aren't. There was so much clutching and grabbing going on it's a wonder anyone could skate. I know you're butt hurt over the loss but get over it. Tech had a down year and there is really only one person to blame for that.
