WCHA Pick ‘Em 2018-19

Time for the next rendition of the WCHA Pick ‘Em contest. Rules are basically the same as last year:
3 points for a win (regulation or NCAA OT)
2 points for a shootout win (WCHA conference games only)
1 point for a shootout loss (WCHA conference games only)
0 points for a loss (regulation or NCAA OT)

For OOC regular season and specific tournament games, there will be the option to pick a tie which will be worth 3 points if the game ends in a tie at the end of the NCAA OT period or zero points if either team wins.

Periodically there will be a bonus question (or two...) worth 5-10 points.
Only NCAA-sanctioned games will be counted (no exhibition games).
Click the link, fill out the form, submit your picks (don’t forget to click Submit).
Top 16 make the playoffs. More on that later.

Three awards are up for grabs:
McNaughton Cup – Regular season champion as determined by total points (2017-18 winner – SweeneyHawksHockey)
Mason Cup – Highest regular season points percentage (based solely on picks) (2017-18 winner – SweeneyHawksHockey)
Jeff Sauer Trophy – Playoff champion (2017-18 winner - Wi.HuskiesFan)

I was lucky to make the tourney and have a good run last year. Hopefully I can be as lucky this year! Thanks for running the pick em TUPD!!

I would call a #5 playoff seed and losing in the championship match by only 2 points more than "a good run" ;-)

We have 37 players for week 1 plus Jack Hittinger, WCHA beat writer from USCHO (you pick 'em, we post 'em!). Puck drops in 2 hours, stragglers need to get those picks in.

I'll post week 1 results after tomorrow's BG/WMU game.

We currently have 41 contestants plus USCHO Jack. If we maintain this number of regulars I'll re-evaluate the cut line for the playoffs (currently at 16) to keep it interesting for more folks. I think we've got the biggest Pick 'Em contest on the USCHO board so congrats to all of us!

16 games are on tap for week 2 with lots of match-ups that can go either way. Week 3 will see our first crack at the bonus question so make this week count.

I didn’t read the thread and figured week 1 was exhibitions but alas, so I picked tomorrow’s game and all of the losers of the prior game to get in on the action. :)

Mav, you're in for tonight. Good news is that even with missing all the weekend games you're not very far behind me. Bad news is I suck a picking so both of us are a long way from the top. Good news is there's a long way to go so neither of us is out of it.

Week 1 results are in. Congrats to 5 co-winners who are starting the year with a bang: potternmu, Laker Dude, Jbakerifm, Bronco Hockey Fan and <3Blizzard win the initial round of kudos. Reminder there are a ton of games on tap for week 2 so plenty of chance to scramble the standings. Let me know if you see any errors in the standings.

Week 2 is in the books with tri-winners Bronco Hockey Fan, GoNanooks, and TalonsUpPuckDown each posting a whopping 36 points. This stellar showing was enough to provide Bronco Hockey Fan a 3 point lead over potternmu. But it's early. And week 3 brings with it 11 tough matchups and our first bonus question.

Edit: And throw in a shout out to MTUHuskyGold for being the only player to correctly call the Bemidji/North Dakota tie.
