WCHA offseason thread 2017.

Re: WCHA offseason thread 2017.

I think its pretty much impossible for ASU to be in the WCHA for 2017-18 based on the number of games they have committed outside the WCHA. 2018-19 is possible and while I agree with you that life as an independent is difficult, ASU has name brand recognition in sports that goes a long way in helping them fill a schedule, not to mention a trip to Arizona in February sounds pretty nice to a lot of teams.

Arizona State already released its 2017-18 schedule:

BURRITOS VS. BISCUITS DEC. 1-2! ;)

Re: WCHA offseason thread 2017.

Thirty two game schedule. Twelve games at home. And three of four February weekends booked.

That's impressive.

Sadly, MTU booked ASU a week too late. Should have booked them a week sooner, and asked them to bring some ringers with for Carnival queen competition. ;)

It will be 34 games total. One tournament has yet to be released that was discussed at the team banquet. Our schedule is pretty solid with the teams coming to the Valley, the Vegas tourney and two trips to close by Colorado Springs.

What, only 500 miles?

Re: WCHA offseason thread 2017.

Per an email just received from the conference office, the WCHA will release the composite conference schedule on Thursday 4 May at 2pm EDT.

I saw on Twitter a couple of them were planning to borrow their daddy's Bimmer for that series and come up to Tech and get their MRS degree.

Additionally, a pair of WCHA rivalry groups will play a nonconference home-and-home series: Alaska Anchorage vs. Alaska (Oct. 20-21) and Lake Superior State vs. Northern Michigan (Oct. 6-7).

Ouch.

The season ends on the last weekend in February.

Re: WCHA offseason thread 2017.

Maximum number of non-conference games (against non-WCHA opponents) is 62, 58 of those are certain.

22 non-conference home games total (as quoted in WCHA release), 27 not at neutral sites. That seems to be a much better percentage than last season.

I saw the UAH schedule and (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻) a few times. Five consecutive home weekends during BAMA season, then nine weeks away from home.

Ouch. NMU plays 18 of its first 24 on the road, then 9 of 12 at home.

Interesting, Potulny went with an established new assistant and retained an established one to fill his staff.

No Gopher ties to the top assistant surprised me a bit.

Re: WCHA offseason thread 2017.

I honestly hope next year that the WCHA can find a television network to broadcast the championship game for the conference title. What an amazing atmosphere for the game to go into double overtime this past season. Any true hockey fan would have enjoyed watching that game. Like many said after game too bad there had to be a loser.
The league missed the boat on that one.
