WCHA First Round: #9 Anchorage at #2 Wisconsin

Re: WCHA First Round: #9 Anchorage at #2 Wisconsin

Man, is UAA's Clark a goon. Just about every scuffle included him. One play, he pulled down Goulebef, saw he got a penalty for it, and pulled him down again.
There were quite a few goon plays on the part of UA-A last night. Look at it this way though, what other chance did they have? They havent got the talent to keep up with the Badgers in a clean game, so the only choice they had was to goon it up, hope to make the Badgers lose their temper, get out of their game, committ some stupid penalties and take advantage of the PP.
When you are an inferior team, thats really all you can do.
In the words of the UW student section, "thanks for trying". :D

i didn't think uaa was that bad this past weekend when it came to goony plays. they skated and competed hard but were just overmatched when you play a team who can roll 4 lines at you all night long and wear you down. I'm kinda confused how uaa was able to compete with denver and some other top teams this year but they were a walk in the park for UW. Must just be a good matchup for UW

Ever since UAA knocked Wisconsin out of the first round in 2004, they've had their number. 20-2-1 since that series and haven't lost since 2006 to the Seawolves. I knocked both games were pretty clean games, especially once UAA got down big, they didn't make any dirty plays. I thought Geoffrion was able to get under Clark's skin all weekend, especially Saturday night. As he seemed more interested in finding someone to hit after the whistle then scoring and probably was part of the gameplan for the Badgers. McD and Gardiner got the game puck Saturday from Eaves for the way they shut down Clark all weekend.
