WCHA Final Five Quarterfinals - BSU vs. UMD: Time to make some top hats!

Bemidji State is making their first appearance at the Final Five in their first year in the league. UMD is making their 3rd consecutive appearance. Which I believe is a school record.

I really like our chances against BSU. I think BSU was lucky in drawing UNO. I am not sure what it was but they had UNO's number this year. Beaver fans, why did you matchup so well against UNO?

We played a couple of close games in Bemidji earlier this year and I expect the same. After last weekend I have more faith that UMD will play their best at the right time. I hope last weekend they turned on the playoff mode button and are ready to make a run now and in the NCAA's week from now.

Go Bulldogs!

Good luck 'Dogs. The one thing the Beavers are notorious for is being a tough tournament team. Must be the 20 yr old freshmen who played juniors in Canada. Goalie Dan Bakala is a monster in net, and the Beavers have some of the best grinders in the WCHA. They physically dominated the Goofers, practically beating them like rented mules. A few bounces in the other direction throughout the season and the Beavs wouldn't be 10th in the conference.

I find it funny that d-bags like Dougie Woog ***** about how many Canadians play for BSU. Why not get the more experienced players? All the "good" Minnesota kids are already picked over. And, the difference between BSU and the vast majority of the "big" WCHA teams is that we GRADUATE our players.

The Beavers get very little respect - for now. Everyone acts like we're a new hockey club, like SCSU and Mankato State was. However, with 13 National Championships since 1967, we have the hockey tradition in Bemidji to be a team that deserves more respect than we get. Yeah yeah, all of you out there who state "well, that wasn't Div I or WCHA, blah blah blah..." The Beavers have a history of winning in every conference and division we've competed in. It's only a matter of time before we work our way to the top of this conference as well.

Ok, my rant is over. Good luck 'Dogs. I received my masters from UMD. However, there is no question who I'm cheering for....

What makes the a tough tournament team? Being from the CHA? :D

You do raise a good point that Bakala played well last weekend. I still want to know how/why UNO was such a good matchup for BSU.

Re: WCHA Final Five Quarterfinals - BSU vs. UMD: Time to make some top hats!

I think what played into BSU's hand against UNO was the fact that the Mavericks like to run and gun, and they didn't have an answer for BSU's "trap" (I use that term in honor of Maverick fans, LOL). BSU's puck pressure defense forced UNO to pass the puck way before they were ready to, leading to many turnovers. BSU, seizing those opportunities, made them pay for the turnovers. When UNO did enter the offensive zone, they fired long distant shots on net, BSU would gather the rebound, chip it out and be off to the races with odd man rushes since the D-men pinched a lot.

Should be a good game Thursday. Outside of North Dakota, no other team has blown BSU out of the water this year. It has been a long time since the two OT games the Beavers and Dogs played earlier, but it wouldn't surprise me to see another one Thursday. BSU did play 11 of them this year......

Tiggsy still appears a bit surly over how the Gophers season ended.

Not really. I've accepted it and moved on. Even though that won't stop you guys from trying to rub it in. That's why I won't get too involved in circular logic arguments these days.

I'm just here to support the Beav.

I love arguing for arguing sake. And being complete biased and not meaning it :D

Impressed your honest about that. Rep just for that fact alone. :)
