cool.
except for the part about "because of where he plays", which is idiotic. it may be true, but it's idiotic.

2015-16 CHN Preseason All-America Team
Second Team

F Alex Petan, Sr., Michigan Tech — Overlooked at times because of where he plays, but the 5-foot-9 Petan puts up consistently good numbers.

G Carmine Guerriero, Jr., Alabama-Huntsville — Had a .927 save percentage last season while facing more shots per minute than any goaltender in the country. Edges out Jamie Phillips and Thatcher Demko, who had offseason hip surgery and may miss the early part of the season.

Let me tell you, a double-fault final-play elimination hasn't occurred since the Helsinki episode of 1919, and I think we all remember how THAT turned out!
The WCHA also announced today that UAH has signed a new play-by-play team for the 2015-16 season. Geof and Chuck Norris both gave the announcement thumbs up.

They can keep doubting the league — both Petan and Guerriero are "too small" but getting it done.

Unfortunately, both msu and mtu gave the doubters reason to continue doubting the league in the tournament. It's incumbent on the teams to prove them wrong. Until there is some postseason success, this will be the prevailing attitude.

Agreed. Also, as I mentioned before, the league as a whole needs to do better in non-conference. Another huge step will be getting 3 teams in, last year was very close, but not quite enough.

I thought it was very interesting that Guerriero got the 2nd team all-American slot. I think everyone in this league realizes how good he is, I'm just surprised it was recognized nationally. Also, while I do think he is a helluva goalie, I think it is a pretty huge longshot that he's in the same position at the end of the year, because I think the team as a whole is just a year or 2 away from being where they need to be in order to put a goalie on the all-American team. And I don't mean it as any rip on UAH, they have made huge strides, and have become relevant much quicker than I expected.

I'll be honest in saying that I was surprised (although I got tipped off inadvertently). I think that UAH will make moves this year, but I think that it was as ballsy of a move to pick Carmine there as it was for me to pick UAH 4th in the media poll.

Re: WCHA 2015-16: So here's what we think that we know...

So today is a big day for this league. We start with some huge NC games to see where we'll sit in the hierarchy of NCAA conferences.

UND/MSU vs LSSU (Icebreaker)
FSU @/vs WMU
BGSU @/vs OSU
NMU @ UW (x2)
UNO @ MSUM (x2)
BSU @/vs UMD
UCONN @ UAH (x2)
SCSU/ASU vs UA_ (Kendall)
ASU/SCSU @ UAA (Kendall)

Nice to see 7 of these games at home plus the Alaska tournament and LSSU in the icebreaker.

Dahlstrom didn't start? I thought he was supposed to be ready this weekend...

Well not a great start to the year for the league. I was expecting some of those losses, but man losing to Uconn hurts,. I think the rest of the scores went chalk, though I think Lake state will be better than most thought.I also didn't expect NMU to have to score 2 in the third to tie.

Agree about the disappointing evening (starting with us, though we really didn't play too bad) but UConn is not the same program it was 2 or 3 years ago. From what I saw of Letunov in the USHL, he can be as good as anyone in college hockey. I don't think UConn wins Hockey East or anything, but that's far from a bad loss for UAH.

Re: WCHA 2015-16: So here's what we think that we know...

We were just gassed and awful in the third (0 SOG). Add that to a sub-par game from Guerriero and ... yep, that's an L.

at least UAA pulled one out against ASU. losing that would've been mighty embarrassing.

We also know that Ferris needs to stay out of the box.

NMU took the lead 2-1 in the third, Wisco scored an Extra Attacker goal with a minute to go.

Okay, we sorta atoned for last night with that one.

Re: WCHA 2015-16: So here's what we think that we know...

Well some big wins Congrats to BGSU, UAH and Bsu for a job well done
The Asu loss will hurt but now that their style of play is out there they will have a tougher time. I don't see them winning a single game in the east
It was good to see the big without a single win and any win against a H E team is big as well
