Re: WCHA 2015-16: So here's what we think that we know...

I split the difference and have them 6th. ;) But I'd agree to put them 4th before I'd put them 8th.
The thing is NMU can be goaded into multiple penalties and if they are it's an easy win. But if they stay disciplined they can make for a very tough game.
Good luck to UAH vs CC. Win one of those and you are serving notice on the world.

Re: WCHA 2015-16: So here's what we think that we know...

dumb question of the day:
how are there 10 first-place votes in the coaches poll? thought coaches couldn't vote for their own team.

Re: WCHA 2015-16: So here's what we think that we know...

Does anyone remember which a tech asst. coach recruited Copley and Phillips?

CC is going to be TERRIBLE again. UAH should be able to get at least 1 win out of them, maybe 2.

Only two players return with more than 31 minutes in penalties. Only two players on this season's roster had more than 10 minor penalties. Who are these players that are going to get goaded into spending massive amounts of time in the sin bin?

I don't think CC was terrible last year like they were the year before. I think they will be ok, just not at the top of their league. more like say Ferris in quality. They will not be all that easy to beat. But it is a help that you don't have to go there to do it.

You know it seems, maybe wrongly, that NMU takes a lot of penalties when they get PO'ed, regardless of who is on the roster and what year it is. Just my opinion though.

Re: WCHA 2015-16: So here's what we think that we know...

Well yeah, because they're goony hacks.
No we're no...

2014-15: NMU 7th in Nation 14.1 Penalty Minutes per Game // MTU 24th, 11.8 PIM/G
2013-14: NMU 8th 14.8 PIM/G // MTU 6th 15.3 PIM/G
2012-13: NMU 7th 15.2 PIM/G // MTU 19th 13.5 PIM/G
2011-12: NMU 7th 16.4 PIM/G // MTU 15th 13.6 PIM/G
2010-11: NMU 6th 17.6 PIM/G // MTU 26th 13.9 PIM/G

Okay, maybe we are. But at least we're CONSISTENT! :D

Two WCHA games on American Sports Network.
http://www.wcha.com/men/pres1516/201509/sep28wcm.php

Alaska at UAH on Jan. 8
Lake Superior at Michigan Tech on Feb. 5 (Winter Carnival)

For us, I think of that Saturday Night Live "Get to Know Me" sketch with Jon Lovitz, where Don Pardo yells "I'M ON TV!!!"

Come to think of it, it may have been the Division II days the last time UAH had a home game on the telly.

I've never even heard of that network...

Re: WCHA 2015-16: So here's what we think that we know...

ASN is owned by a holding group (Sinclair) that controls a lot of local affiliates. Most stations air ASN programming sporadically on their .2 or .3 subchannels and pre-empt the normal programming on that feed. There are 3 Sinclair stations in Michigan - WSMH in Flint (which I have seen air some ASN minor league baseball coverage on 66.2), WWMT in Kalamazoo, and WLUC in Marquette (which has already intimated that they will definitely show ASN games involving UP schools on their 6.3 subchannel).

The rub is this - unless you have a Sinclair owned station in your market, you're likely not getting this network. Since it's owned and operated, they don't syndicate much (even though they have said they would entertain the idea).

So it appears that penalty minute average has declined each year and that trend should continue with the departure of the guy who had 97 minutes last year and 103 the year before to go along with 51 & 71 his first two years.

Translation - it's not even close to national TV, and the league office should be laughed at for promoting it as such.
