Video: Denver's Makowski's 195-foot SHG #3 draws national coverage on ESPN, Deadspin

Saw this on our local news tonight. Looks like he didn't even see it coming.

I am sick of hearing 200 ft goal, 197 ft goal, etc.

The net's 11 feet from the boards. So it's not 197 ft, it's 186 ft.

Longest it could be is 189 ft.

Did you use the Pythagorean Theorem to figure this out?

Meh, this happened to (I think) Nick Boucher about 8 or 9 years ago. I believe against Clarkson. Guy dumped the puck from behind his own goal line. Boucher (or whoever was in net for Dartmouth) came out to meet it but not quickly enough. Puck landed about a foot in front and bounced over the stick, trickled through the leg pads, and in. Stood up as the only goal of the game until the latter half of the 3rd period, when Dartmouth got 2 late to win 2-1.

Worst part was in the stands you could see the puck doing its best knucklepuck immitation as it's flying through the air, and you could also tell it was going to land in front of the goalie. That it then trickled through was almost a foregone conclusion.

Edit: found it. http://www.uscho.com/recaps/2003/02/15/big-green-rallies-past-golden-knights/
It was a 3-1 final, and the goalie was Boucher.

Actually, if you were to consider the width distance between the post and the location of the shooter, it probably was a 195-foot shot.

That's how I eyballed it when I created the thread header.

There was at least 10 feet of swerve-to-the-left width in the overall distance from the shooter to the goal. It wasn't a straight shot.

From my vantage point directly behind the shooter, it appeared to be on-net off Makowski's stick, but as with most wristers of that length, was tailing off toward the corner. When it landed it was wide of the net, but wasn't flat, and bounced significantly left (shooter's) catching Genoe off-guard. Crazy shot!

There had to be a second shooter on the grassy knoll. There's no way Makowski could of made the shot from that angle.

Look at it on the bright side. At least Genoe can use the lighting as an excuse when he hits the talk show circuit.

Some other possible excuses.

10). The puck really flies off the stick in the thin air of Denver

9). I lost it in the smog

8). I always wanted to be on Sportscenter

7). I was trying to draw an icing call

6). More people have seen me on one day on YouTube than attend Michigan Tech games in a career

5). In this internet age you've got to do something to stand out to future employers

4). I wanted to pay tribute to Bill Buckner, my favorite baseball player

3). College hockey needed more media attention

2). I spent too much time on the Skating Treadmill in the offseason so now its hard to drop into the butterfly

1). I was counting on the WCHA refs overturning the goal on replay

0). It bounced back out so it should not count.
