Vermont @ Maine 10-30 Game 1 :

Re: Vermont @ Maine 10-30 Game 1 :

Wow. Never seen Maine fans this down on the team and staff. I know the last two years have been what most programs would call rebuilding years but hasn't Whitehead taken the team to the final game twice and the FF something like 4 times? Was that simply the coat tails of Walsh or do you guys have the patience of George Steinbrenner?

This is rebuilding year #3.......there ain't anything being rebuilt......just destroyed.

Yes......coat tails of Walsh.

Re: Vermont @ Maine 10-30 Game 1 :

RE; Greencat-- yeah, its kinda weird-- Maine hockey has had some recruiting problems and some internal power struggles leading to some of the best and brightest leaving-- which would be alright except that the Napolean in charge has been more interested in being dominant than in winning.

Whitehead is probably a decent guy-- and would probably be a decent coach in another circumstance - - but he has spent the past three or four years responding to the past- he has tried to define himself while repudiating people who have been responsible and had a stake in the past and present-- he has tried to re-create himself and a program while crapping on those whom he perceives as being related to the success stories of the previous Walsh-ian administration . . . so, now, he is reduced to relying on his alliance with an incompetent AD and intimidating his current assistants (and players) while re-doubling his efforts to defend a bad system of play which does not work-- seriously-- his idea is that we increase numbers around the puck -- increasing forwards and defense scrambling toward the corners while opponents skate free-- PLUS the problem that his goaltending is deteriorating--

So, a control freak is increasing his control of a system designed to fail while aided and abetted by institutional control (the AD) that does not want to be here, anymore.

The players are pretty good, despite some recruiting problems- but on the ice & behind the bench the talent -both players and assistant coaching) is not allowed to play or coach --Whitehead simply has a vested interest in a system that fails . . .

Anyway, long post, sorry, but that covers it in a fairly lengthy post. Mbb

Bravo! ;)

Re: Vermont @ Maine 10-30 Game 1 :

First, highly unlikely Maine pulls out a win.
Second, its going to take an act of God for the stay of execution.

I hate to say this, but the post Shawn Walsh experience is kind of reminding me of the post Lou Lamoreillo experience (except for, y'know, two national titles)... Whitehead is now in the late McShane Era...

Interesting commentary. This happens in all types of organizations when leadership changes and the new tries to impart their style at all costs when the old worked great. Happening in the company I work for now as a coincidence..:(

Coat tails of Walsh, and the efforts of Grant Standbrook.

~~~~~ BINGO ~~~~~~
Re: Vermont @ Maine 10-30 Game 1 :
I think Maine has two solid recruiting classes in the current freshmen and sophs. I think they will be dangerous the next few years, if not consistently going forward.
UVM sucked last Friday. Not sure why - or why they won't again. We'll see.
I think the Maine fans are doing the traditional New England thing and managing their own expectations to such low levels that they will be pleased with the ultimate results
You don't know Maine fans.
UVM did not "suck" Friday night. They might not have played their A game, but give Merrimack some credit. They are a good hockey team and contributed to UVM being off their game.
Having witnessed UNH-Maine game Saturday, UVM-MC Friday and the UVM-BC and UVM-DU game on TV, the Catamounts should win easily.
I think you're wrong about that. Unfortunately. :(
There's no amount of expectation-managing that would get me pleased with what the ultimate results are going to be.
After a certain point, there's just no point in BS-ing the issue. Things actually *are* that bad.
