RE; Greencat-- yeah, its kinda weird-- Maine hockey has had some recruiting problems and some internal power struggles leading to some of the best and brightest leaving-- which would be alright except that the Napolean in charge has been more interested in being dominant than in winning.
Whitehead is probably a decent guy-- and would probably be a decent coach in another circumstance - - but he has spent the past three or four years responding to the past- he has tried to define himself while repudiating people who have been responsible and had a stake in the past and present-- he has tried to re-create himself and a program while crapping on those whom he perceives as being related to the success stories of the previous Walsh-ian administration . . . so, now, he is reduced to relying on his alliance with an incompetent AD and intimidating his current assistants (and players) while re-doubling his efforts to defend a bad system of play which does not work-- seriously-- his idea is that we increase numbers around the puck -- increasing forwards and defense scrambling toward the corners while opponents skate free-- PLUS the problem that his goaltending is deteriorating--
So, a control freak is increasing his control of a system designed to fail while aided and abetted by institutional control (the AD) that does not want to be here, anymore.
The players are pretty good, despite some recruiting problems- but on the ice & behind the bench the talent -both players and assistant coaching) is not allowed to play or coach --Whitehead simply has a vested interest in a system that fails . . .
Anyway, long post, sorry, but that covers it in a fairly lengthy post. Mbb
